Why so?

Iran was complying with the nuclear deal - yes they were being overly aggressive elsewhere - but nuclear ambitions were at least temporarily halted - and other transgressions might have been dealt with separately.

Maybe Iran would have backed out of the nuclear accord even absent Trump - who knows. But barring such a scenario - the current cluster-fuck in the middle east is all dumb Donald's fault.

I agree with all of your points... except that you've overlooked this.

There used to be in place a non-nuclear accord with Iran - which Iran was honoring - to their obvious benefit.

Still, Iran was behaving very aggressively in the region - but, even if we weren't able to stop/curtail such behavior, at least they weren't pursuing the bomb.

Now?...

We've got an even more aggressive Iran - 100% for sure pursing nuclear capability.... with, at the helm of the USA. a President who - is very much a non-interventionist - and who, moreover, obviously won't escalate too far for fear of losing an election (it's all about winning reelection after all - screw everything else).

I wouldn't underestimate them to be honest. 500k+ armed forces and a fair whack of firepower. not a scratch on the US but certainly, so odds are they wont go directly after them, but they may well do via a proxy supplying the likes of Hezbollah with intel and the means to use it. and they are certainly powerful enough to cause major regional issues. especially if they go after Israel or Saudi Arabia or the likes.

Also depends if Russia feel like backing them with hardware etc etc.

I dont agree with the whole middle east conflict but things are the way they are; this is how i imagine the Americans are seeing the situation.

Iran has been causing trouble in the region for a while now with tanker attacks /capturing, threatening oil trade, bombing oil facility in Saudi and supporting attacks on US forces and allies via militias in the region (some allegedly some are certain).

Iran plays the game like Russia did with poisoning people in the UK, serious actions but not so serious or with enough proof to escalate further and they basically get away with it.

US have decided to escalate after the latest actions, meaning any further trouble caused will probably be met with a similar response or even all out conflict which suits Americas overwhelming power.

Iran has the choice to retaliate and risk US further escalating again or they back down, both cases America will likely win where as before they had to sit and take it which I imagine they dont like doing. Obviously in war nobody wins but even Iran must know they would be suicidal to go to war with them.

Basically they are trying to bully iran to stop causing them problems with the threat of full conflict, is my opinion. Neither will want full conflict I hope.

I was replying to your point that this is solely on trump. As you have stated Iran had a deal to stop them developing a nuclear program and they were being aggressive. So they pretty much have been complicit in this tit for tat nonsense.
