Iranian General killed by US Drone.

Sadly being that we are a Western democracy and an ally of the USA we are pretty much guilty by association and now a legitimate target. It's definitely a headache the UK can do without right now.

I think America and Israel will be the prime targets, if not let the SAS and SBS sort them out! And no doubt if the SAS are in then the SAS aussies will be with them too.

There's some truth in that but it's not the fault of the West that, for instance, Sunni's hate Shia's (& vice versa) or that the various tribes fought and killed each other for dominance, when oil wasn't a thing.

But it misses the fundamental point that it's possible to recognise that Suleimani was a bit of a shit, while simultaneously recognising that it probably wasn't a wise move to do what the US did. Also, like Ireland the history of the Middle East is littered with instances of "You did that four hundred years ago so we've got every right to blow you up".

You put it much better than I did, trying to unravel all this and pick the biggest villain is only for someone with an agenda I find. The rest of us just shake our heads and wait for the next installment.

Thing that pisses me off most is that they can pinpoint this **** and kill him with ease, but still end up carrying out drone strikes that hit hospitals, schools and civilians in other areas.

The bbc showed this earlier on their main news, and they credited the footage to an Iranian TV station, strange how were they conveniently filming this from what appears like a fixed camera (its not following the motorcade anyway) ?

Argue all what you want guys. It's all about the money. It's what makes the world spin.
The yanks are the biggest producer of guns and military shit they love it.
They even sold weapons to the Iranians....maybe no more but Money talks lads.

I agree with the Shia Sunni point although I should say that during the post war period the West's main concern was with socialism in the area under Nasser. At that point religious fundamentalism was a minority interest.
Certainly today's events will not have improved things.

There has been an undeclared war for 40 years between Iran and the US. Every so often Iran does somthing that triggers strong retaliation and it gets very warm - In this case killing an American contractor then attacking the US embassy.
Iran has promised to escalate this situation. Let's see how stupid they really are.

Iran has excelled at assymetric warfare over the last few years and Suleimani wasa large part of that. They wouldn't attack the US or Israel directly but would hit things like oil installations in the Gulf, Jewish community facilities, US tourists or tourist attractions in the US possibly.

On the other hand the Iranian leadership also know that the majority of the Iranian population would be happy see the back of them. They've suffered enough under the sanctions regime and most couldn't give a fuck about exporting revolution but just want a decent standard of living and a reasonable government.
