Ireland (Merged)

I join the gutted amongst us. I agree with the poster who said Stevie has talent but Milner is effective. Is it too much to want my City to embrace both? The tough choice in football seems too often between the two, though not for the best of the best teams. I've watched Barca often just for the joy of it. But I couldn't stick 10 minutes of Inter.

I watched the debate on this forum last week about football being a game of results, and couldn't stop myself fearing that Mancini will turn us into an indominable, 1-0 winning, defense oriented machine. Of course I want the wins. But I am sad that we weren't the kind of club any more that could bring out the best in Stevie, and a part of me just can't help blaming Mancini for that.

Make sense blame the manager that had the shortest amount of time with him.

Its a tragedy to see Stevie go. I don't think Mancini knew the talent he had and probably isn't that bothered.
At least Dunnymonster is there to welcome him. After all Ireland has only known City since he was fifteen.

Whether he is telling the world his gran is dead, flashing his true identity to the world, driving a Range Rover with pink wheels, or running up and down hills like a nutter to get himself fit. Never a dull moment.
Really sorry to see him go.

That's life.

Maybe had Hughes still been in charge he might still be with us but who knows.

He won't be the last player with an academy background to leave the club.

Personally I thought he displayed enough in 08/09 to show he could develop into a real asset for the team even if players of some standing from other clubs like some we have seen come since were in the starting eleven but through circumstance or whatever he lost his way under Hughes toward the end of his tenure.

I certainly don't believe he wanted to leave which speaks decent volumes for the solidarity of the squad often maligned in the press.

That may be over doing it, ever so slightly.

-- Thu Aug 19, 2010 9:00 am --

Hadn't Hughes stopped picking him in the starting 11 too, or was that just injuries?

Yes but people now have very selective memories about Ireland I'm afraid.

Its a real shame about Ireland leaving

If hoped that if RM had persisted with him then maybe he would have got the best out of ireland but maybe RM isnt used to managing players like Ireland.

RM seems to want runners and workers over players like Ireland who may drift in and out of games but can add a real creative spark. Like someelse said, its a shame he isnt capable of mixing the both of them.

there is no reason why Ireland couldnt have played int eh same midfield as Milner and yaya.

RM is clearly his own man and appears to be very stubborn (born out by his persistant use of tactics last yuear that on occasions clearly werent working ). I hope this season that he manages to have a plan B and C but he is leaving himself very short of different options by getting rid of players like Ireland, and bellamy.

I believe from the team that RM has now assembled we will play more like a chelski style of football instead of an arsenal style of play. I was hoping we could get a happy marriage of both to be honest

Big thanks to Stevie for the part he's played in the Blue cause and the joy his football gave me.
IRELAND IS SUPERMAN.........

Indeed. And what a joy it was at times.

That goal against Reading in the final minutes at COMS. Took the bloody roof off that did.

And the rest. A Tribute to Superman.

That goal will ALWAYS be fondly remembered by me... It was the last goal that my brother saw at Eastlands.

Thanks for that Stephen and best wishes at Villa.
