IRISH BLUES/RAGS

think you forgot the irish who support LIDDERRRRRPOOOOOOOOOOLLLLL
True; them and Celtic (although the Celtic thing is a cultural/religious issue and won't ever change). Personally, I don't give a fuck about either of the old firm; shite football in a shite league. I only hate Rangers more because of what the pondlife who support them did last May.

Both clubs originated from attempts to divert the energies of wild, young Irish immigrant lads away from crime and towards something constructive like sport, football in particular.

Go back 100 years and walking through city centre Manchester meant taking your life in your own hands it was that bad. Mainly due to unemployed immigrant youths from the nearby Irish 'ghettos' of Ancoats etc.

So you could say with out "the Irish" we wouldn't have a Manchester City or a Manchester United.

As time went on, Irish supporters were probably more likely to be drawn towards United because of their Roman Catholic connections, because (as somebody has already said) of George Best and then - like too many other sad bastards - because they win a lot of stuff.

especially in the north it is ridiculous the amount of rags there are. it def is the georrge best connection that has attracted people to support the scum. although in my generation there has been more than ample oppertunity to support other teams but people over here are bandwagon jumpers. for me man ure is a team to support for people who know fuck all about football. they support the scummers because 'they win things' and are too scared to be ridiculed for supporting another team that isnt as successful. its also a social thing, they want to be accepted and part of the 'cool crowd' and dont want to be exiled from the 'in' group!
most active rags i know are clueless and slag every other team off without truely acknowledging another team in the league.
they have a severe case of red blinkers.

But that's the same wherever you go.

My Da worked all over England in the mid to late 70's and went to many football clubs but said when he got to Manc and watched City that was it!

Most are just glory hunters and use the George Best thing as an excuse!

My Dad started supporting city because his Dad was a rag and he wanted to piss him off. This was way back in the 60s so he chose city. I support them because my Dad instilled it in me and I'm thankfull for this. Meeting another city fan over here is like finding a gold nugget or something as this place is full of parasite, inbred rags who when they were kids and started to take an interest in football, wanted to be part of the status quo and therefore supported manure or Liverpool. At least you guys over in Manchester have lots of fellow blues around you, try being an only blue in a school of 600+ when you're down in the 2nd division, were getting beat every derby day and and all around you it's fucking rag central!

i feel your pain Buddy !!

We Belfastards need a meet-up

Most of them say its about George Best, but its not, they're just glory hunters.

But its hard to blame them, when I grew up there you couldn't buy any other kit apart from United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Celtic and Rangers, maybe you'd see the odd Everton kit. Don't think I ever ever seen a City kit in a store when I was 10, and you certainly didn't hear about them on the TV or in the papers, first time I heard of City was in Fifa 96. Different now because you can buy kits from all teams but I was 10 in 1995.

Paul McGrath is a bigger reason than Best for people to support them these days, but the big reason is because they win things. Its too hard to support a team that wins fuck all, isnt it? ;)

Outside of been born or from manchester and being outside england most kids will pick there team when 7 or 8 years of age and you will more than likely pick a team thats always on the tv or winning things and if there is someone from your country playing for them. United had more irish players playing for them after the war years. Liam whelan being one of the promising players killed in 58 got them hugh support in ireland johnny giles etc well before george best. Then the pool had irish players . In the 70s 80s west brom even started to get supporters :-). That pox getting manager's job at sunderland got a strange type of support rags who followed roy kunt o. brady, o leary. stapelton why we had arse fans. Etc
