Irish Current Affairs.

I’d be equally afraid of Unionist violence if they see themselves as sold out, depending on what Boris’s next step is.
He’d sell out his own granny for his own aims. DUP shouldn’t be under any illusion.

And thats the next step isn't it? Unionists feel sold out - Republicans are advancing their cause through violence and we are back erecting border crossing check points and patrolling the streets ( though I doubt we have enough troops for it ) and its hello 1980's all over again !

an upturn in dissident Republican violence.....hmmm.... I wonder why? What could make them think that their goal of a united Ireland is back on the agenda?
Gangster opportunism.

This is not to condone any previous violence...but "back in the day" there was at least some intelligence, knowledge and understanding of the cause people were fighting for...people knew their history.

Half...if not more...of these wee dicks weren't born...have only known "peace" time...or were very young around the time of the GFA.

Just wee spides (chavs) with no hope and a bleak future

Still real bombs and a real threat to peoples lives regardless of the motivation

Loyalist violence could increase over here...if they even knew how to.
Republican violence has increased, but i believe if it were to increase any more, itll be hitting the mainland....that's how they will see a way of getting GB to wash their hands of us :(

Mate, its still just fuxkin normal life :(
Its not shocking to people here.

Ffs, was watching local news on tv earlier....petrol bombs and bricks flying at the police, and an ASDA delivery driver in background delivering a "big shop" to some woman in her house.

And I’d doubt they have the backing in the community or at least I’d hope not. I mean what goal would it achieve. Regardless of what anyone may think of the troubles and their inception, there was a clear motive to bring down Stormont, amongst the nationalist paramilitaries.

Right now both communities want the Assembly back up and running and normal operations to recommence.

This tiny faction are gangster opportunists like Alex says.

Although I would favour the original solution of the border down the Irish see, I would envisage more serious unrest amongst loyalists if this happens.

You could be right Alex.
That would be the motivation I was alluding to in my other post.

watching the programme earlier though was just resonant with names of places that for me are still negative news pieces from when I was a kid and a teenager - Crossmaglen, Warrenpoint, Falls Road, the Ardoyne and so on. I am a Middleton lad and a mate of lost family on the M62 coach bombings - brother-in-law still has nightmares about serving in Ulster and two school friends of mine who joined the GMP won awards for their actions in the Manchester IRA bombing. The effects of Brexit economically are I fear potentially disastrous but if it brings back the pre-GFA days to the UK its unforgivable.
