Discussing this at work.

After qualifying for the world cup, they recorded themselves singing an IRA song in the dressing room and uploaded it to Youtube (of course)

I feel some of them are too young to know about the troubles but they surely know the history of it?

Young women having fun with no intentions of offending anyone is my guess but there are thousands of family’s affected from what the IRA have done

Are the media going over the top?

Thoughts?

Uefa is investigating "potential inappropriate behaviour" by Republic of Ireland women's players after a video of them singing a song containing a pro-IRA chant emerged after their World Cup play-off win over Scotland.

European football's governing body confirmed an ethics and disciplinary inspector will oversee the case, with information on the matter to be made available "in due course".
On Wednesday, Republic manager Vera Pauw said the team apologised "from the bottom of our hearts" for the video.

It emerged on social media after their 1-0 win at Hampden Park which saw them reach the World Cup for the first time.

The footage showed team members chanting the pro-IRA slogan in the stadium's dressing room after Amber Barrett's goal had earned the side a place at next year's finals in Australia and New Zealand.

They were singing ‘The Celtic Symphony’ which has the chorus ‘Ooh ahh, up the RA’…

In my opinion, there is no intention for it be offensive. They didn't think about the consequences of singing it and sang it in the same way our players would sing Yaya/Kolo. Obviously its not the same but I dont think people need to overreact.

One thing that did make me laugh though, was hearing someone trying to defend it by saying they were singing about the manager, Vera Pauw.

"Ooh ah Up Ve-ra".

Absolutely. Singing up the Ra is just fist pumping patriotism sung in a moment. Those girls sang it joyously without a hint of malice.
How many of us City fans have sung the ' Munich ' song in a frenzied pre match singalong not intending any ill will on the families but because it was seen as a pro City song.
The Ra doesn't refer to the provos but to the old IRA and the fight for freedom against British imperialism. Something that the likes of Rob Wootton might want to educate himself the next time he sings rule brittania

It's cringy. I've heard a good few people over the years say or sing it for a few seconds but always as black humour - none have supported the IRA though.

People say and do stupid things for a laugh. Especially young people. I hope they learned a lesson.

Hopefully it blows over soon.

It was incredibly short sighted of them. Yes; of course they're entitled to hold whatever political opinion they do, as is everybody. But to film themselves doing it, and then to post the bloody thing on social media displays a serious lack of common sense/nous or, as they say over here, "cop on". I'd say the PR team at the FAI must have felt like going to hide in a corner somewhere when this news broke.
