Is Eden Hazard The One That Got Away?

Hazard is performing better than Robben and Ribery at the moment, and he's got a higher output.
He's not, and he doesn't. If you use the wide assist rules from Transfermarkt you get this for all club competitions:

Hazard - 33 matches, 14 goals, 8 assists (2643 minutes) | Goal/assist every 120 minutes
Ribéry - 24 matches, 13 goals, 10 assists (1848 minutes) | Goal/assist every 80 minutes
Robben - 23 matches, 14 goals, 11 assists (1503 minutes) | Goal/assist every 60 minutes

He's better than Robben was for us in 2004/7.
I specifically pointed out the 2004-05 season where he was almost unplayable. He brought a completely different threat to that fantastic Chelsea side. I remember Jol praising him to no ends during that period as well. Not to mention he was dealing with several injuries during that period. I personally think Robben 04-05 was better than Hazard is now; you might disagree, I'm not going to try and convince you.

I'm not sure Edin Hazard ever really wanted to come to City and we, given our change in wage structure off the back of FFP, were never going to pay stupid money in order to change his mind. He's a quality player, but I think the lure of Chelsea and London was always going to be too much.

For me Alexis Sanchez was the one I really wanted, he was, and is, exactly what we need, and he'd have torn the Premier League apart with his pace and ability. Can't say I don't understand his decision to go to Barcelona, however he'd have been an ever present in our side whereas he's battling for starts at Barca.

He was our guest at the stadium the night we beat the rags 1.0, if we paid him and his agent the money he wanted we'd have got him. Like you said, we changed our transfer policy but I think we still made a huge mistake not signing him.

Is he really as good as Hazard ?

I don't think so.

I think we should have paid Hazard what he wanted but the repercussions might have been that the wage structure was disrupted. He seems a level-headed type now and happy with his lot. We didn't know that at the time, didn't fancy paying him £100K 'net' of tax per week for a young and relatively unproven talent and also the £35 million transfer fee.

In hindsight somebody at Chelsea saw that he would come good and would be a serious investment. To buy him now, even if Chelsea would sell, they'd want a fortune for him.

He would definitely walk into any team in Europe.

How Drogba's call to Gervinho led to Abramovich telling Hazard he'd TRIPLE his wages to sign for Chelsea

Lille boss Rudi Garcia - Hazard's coach at the time - witnessed the drama unfold and has revealed all in his new autobiography.

Garcia explains how Didier Drogba called Gervinho and asked if Hazard - who now plays for Chelsea - was with him. Gervinho said: 'Yes, he is here.'

Hazard took the phone and Garcia claims Abramovich said: 'I don't know how much you earn at Lille, but I will triple your salary.'

Very good player who of course would improve us. It's not like we chose not to buy him though is it? As far as I remember he was being a right fucking dildo that summer over his transfer with his twitter announcements etc and then he chose Chelsea. If we hadn't tried to sign him, I might be bothered but he didn't want to come to us so not worth worrying about. The players we went for instead of Hazard and De Rossi were the problem, I think I'd rather we had only signed Nastasic that window.

Got to say I didn't see the fuss at first, but he is turning out to be one hell of a player. Can't say too much positives about how he went about choosing his club, then broadcasting it, though out that down to youth I suppose. When he matures he is going to be unbelievable.
So the answer is just twat him on Saturday- time to get a Nasri type injury and see how maureen likes that!!

No mate. No. We're blues. We're not like our classless neighbors across the road. Let's hope he turns to bat shit or get sent off.

Didn't expect to be accused of that after my first post. I must be the only rag with a City scarf hanging in the hall, travelled to Birmingham to see the Community Shield final as per above post, cheered Bent's goal yesterday and.........er, sorry about this mate, have a City seasoncard.

I don't expect you to reply to this but kindly admit to yourself that you got it wrong. Enjoy your holiday.

First point you're right, I was looking at Bundesliga stats not all competitions.

Second point, Robben was excellent in 04-05 but he was a bit of a secret weapon mainly because of his inability to stay fit, that factor is important. He was a luxury for us and eventually Mourinho decided on cashing in on him and buying someone more reliable. Hazard is practically running our entire attack at the moment, and he's equally unplayable and he's reliable. I believe Hazard has a higher ceiling than Robben, and he was one of my favourite players. I was gutted when we sold him to Madrid, especially when we replaced him with Malouda who was incredibly frustrating.

I like our team chemistry as it is. Hazard irritates me, it all started with how he withheld who he was signing for, but they were blue, and how it was going to be this huge reveal. Can't deny his talents, and might be a good guy if I met him, but came off as a bit of a knob.
