Is Gaël Clichy that good?

I have been very critical of him in the past and really feel like we need to replace him, but he played excellently yesterday. That defensive header at the back post was massive.

Did notice him being dead tired at the end and not fully tracking back during an attack but he hasn't played a lot so I can imagine his fitness isn't perfect.
 
He's fuckin awful. Dire doesn't cover it.
He's the only left footed footballer I've known that's got a ' none contact left foot' clause written into his contract.
Wake up fella ffs.
 
Pellegrini doesn't it looks. In each big game he picks Clichy. Not sure he is even defensively that better than Kolarov. He's been targeted by opposition game after game. Not completely his fault though as that left side of ours is much weaker defensively but he is not that good really. Never was but he is going south rapidly.

The only way any left fullback will get any protection is if Milner starts that side.

It's long been a problem that side and really needs addressing.
 
Was shocking today in my opinion and overall he has been all season.

Kolarov has offered us a lot of goals and assists from full back this season but along with Clichy both are not good enough to be first choice for us and take us forward.
 
I just don't think he's very good. He's more of a hinderance than a threat when we attack, constantly clowing things down as he refuses to cross the ball and his defending is far from great. He has pace and he's marginally better defensively than Kolarov, but I don't think he's nearly good enough
 
I'm not one for calling one of ours but he's been off his game since 2012.
He's dreadful, absolutely dreadful and offers us nowt, forward or back,
 
Said it all season. We need a new left back, along with another World class centre half.

Luke shaw, a center back and a center mid should do us this summer. We should defintley go for shaw and get rid of clichy.

been saying it past few months, he has been very poor.

Him along with Lescott need to be shown the door. There are few players already feeling comfortable and lost the desire.

Luke shaw, a center back and a center mid should do us this summer. We should defintley go for shaw and get rid of clichy.

Yeah shame about Richards leaving he's been a servant to this club, but with the persisting injury problems, maybe it's not the worst thing in the world that he's not accepted the contract offered. Watch him go to Liverpool and smash it now though haha. Anyway, that Clyne at Southampton looks a player, and would help towards the English quota.
That fernando looks like a done deal along with mangala, so that's the CB and midfielder ticked off. That fernando looks like real tough tackler, loves to track the ball down from what I've seen, in the de Jong mold.

And also, is it just me or has Zabba looked a bit slower this season? A little bit off the pace? Maybe it's just because he's played nearly every game due to micahs injuries.

The last few games especially he's been looking tired - for the reasons you state. He's played 90 minutes of virtually every game whereas Clichy and Kolarov have shared the workload.

Yeah I wasn't sure whether is was because he's ageing or because he's played so much, I'm sure you're right though, and hopefully next season he'll be sharing the work load and he can get back to his best.

I'm not sure what are the other options for France bar Evra, and one could argue that Evra was not that better but I guess his attacking part decided.

Clichy is not, and never was anything special. Sometimes pretty good in defence, sometimes not so, useless in attack. Did his job in last few seasons, and was pretty good in 2012. at the back, so should be considered as legend as should all those that won all trophies in last three seasons but I wouldn't mind to see him replaced by some more creative option.

I agree. I always feel more confident with him in the side than Kolarov.
