Is it shameful what the FA are doing?

The draw for the first qualifying rounds for next seasons European competitions is due on June 9th. The Community Shield is due on Aug 2nd. Next season cannot be extended too much as the chances of the Euros being cancelled next year is negligible (Coronavirus permitting). Can anyone sensibly suggest how long this season can be extended? Don't forget if this season is extended, then clubs need to plan for next season (in a lot of cases different budgets for different divisions). The fixtures also have to be finalised, season tickets sold and TV coverage planned. As it stands I calculate that if the season restarted at the beginning of May then it would be July 25th when it finishes. As per the Dacia advert, you do the maths.

Well Gordon Taylor on the record said the whole of this year for him counts as this season so he thinks starting in November is fine!

MSC, you misunderstood my reply. Football is no different from any other business for me. I am basically saying that this season should be scrapped. Money is irrelevant at this present time but from Football (and sport generally) ending seasons now mitigates losses.

Why is next season so much more important than this season? Because we have a better chance of winning the league next season as Liverpool have all but won it already this season? What a self-centred viewpoint.

What about relegation and promotion? What about European qualification? These things will affect club's futures and prospects. It makes no sense whatsoever to cancel a season that is almost complete, in order to start a new one "on time".

The 2022 world cup is going to screw schedules up anyway. Why not finish this season by the end of this year and have next season run February 2022 to November 2022 before the world cup in December? Then you have to decide whether to stick with Feb-Nov moving forwards, or create a smaller competition for the early months of 2023 to get back on track with starting seasons in August.

This season has been fucked because of covid19. IF we could complete a full season allowing relegation and promotion without fucking up next season I`d be all for it but that IMO it`s highly unlikely. We might not even get away with next season yet and that`s before we even think about completing 19/20 season.

I agree with the thrust of what you’re saying and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t try to finish the season. The only caveat is that, if they start again, it must not be behind closed doors. If you accept the very basic premise that playing at home gives an advantage then that is not the same last ten games (which is over 25% of the season) as the first 28, which can’t be right. I know it doesn’t matter, in the grand scheme of things, but Liverpool coming to City, with nobody there, can’t be a disadvantage for them, especially given what happened in January 2019. Teams at the bottom, or pushing for Europe, have been away and lost but will have to play the same team, at home, with no crowd and, therefore, very little advantage.
It’s that, that I object to, not trying to finish the season at some point.

the pressure being put on clubs and on the players will be to much and crazy ? and asking them to play 3 games in a week and without any proper warm up games because of the long break will have a lasting effect of the players. it takes 3 to 4 weeks of pre-season to get fit and then 3 games in your legs and body to get match fit ? so asking them to play in the summer and then just have a 2 week break then start the new season is the craziest thing ever

just forget it ? people are not ready and to much pain of lost ones and mourning and respect is needed from football before a ball is kicked again. why not just lets clear this virus and completely feel free to get back into some sort of life before thinking about football. its smells of greed and will not look good and football needs fans more than tv money

just cancel the old season and start the new one on time. its simple and easy to fix nobody gets relegated or promoted just leave it in the past. and its just a freak and act of life than nobody can control and out of everybody hands

but we know who the moaners will be ? and if there is one club that has caused so much trouble and pain in football then liverpool will just have to eat humble pie and take it maybe its karma

And allow live games at 3.00 pm so that the fans aren’t screwed over as much. No reason why two live games can’t be screened at that time on a Saturday every league weekend. That gives them an additional 78 games which would be more than they have lost this season. Season should be declared null and void and some clubs should count themselves lucky across all divisions and some unlucky. European spots based on last completed season so we would be in pot one as champions.

A few years ago when sky had the rights to la Liga, they broadcast every game live and there wasn’t a single 3pm kick off. Now in Spain I think no 2 games kick off at the same time.
