Is it time for England to let go?

You would think you are doing us a favour by being in NI when this problem was created by you hundreds of years ago.England cant afford not to have a military prescence on this island because we are so close,ye can put any different slant you want on it but that is the bottom line.
Irish neutrality counts for very little when it comes down to the fear of perceived attack and its for this very reason so much is pumped into both Irish economies by England.
As for the rest the way I see it you reap whay you sow,the way nations have been treated in the past by the English leaves a lot to be desired and it pays for you to have foreign based landing zones. The past is the past but with your history it pays to be safe and that safety costs money in the modern age.

Regarding the Falklands I'm not sure how the soldiers who won them back would feel if we turned our backs on them now, not to mention how the families of those that died would feel.

I would also ask whether we had a moral obligation to help these places out regardless of the cost, when you think of our past.

to be honest as a Falklands vet if the locals wanted to be governed by Argentina I would be fine with it.......but they don't!

Falklands no because of the Oil and Gib no because it is a deccent piss up

Gibraltar is also tactically the one of the most important points in the med. You never know what the future holds. Today's allies could be tomorrows enemies and holding Gibraltor could feck over certain med countries if things ever turned nasty.

Been in the Royal Navy the past 21 years, Fully aware how important it is but as said great piss up lol

-- Tue Oct 04, 2011 4:55 pm --

Free prescriptions in Scotland and no tuition fees. Wales are going the same way. Benefits galore to Falkland Islanders and £millions per day to subsidise Northen Ireland

It's alright these people wanting to stay part of the UK, why wouldn't they?

It's all good as far as they're concerned.

Okay, thats three times in three pages. Stop insinuating that the Welsh are free-loaders you boring, WUMing, IRA-respecting dribble of cock-snot.

why would we fear an attack from the irish? We have not been successfully invaded since 1066. Countless great armies have failed. You think that Britain keeps soldiers in Ireland to keep the irish out of here? LOL

i think scotland and wales should go their own way now they have their own parliaments, if they have the bottle to do so is another matter, ireland should also be one country but this is not going to be possible any time soon
