hard to argue with someone who actually believes in the year 2011 the english are concerned that if northern ireland become part of a united ireland they would be used as a stepping stone by a foreign power to attack us, the liverpool landings eh?, i think the government would be delighted if NI became part of a united ireland unfortunately the majority of the people who live their dont seem so keen.

as for the general population of england i wouldnt imagine they care either way. if the world has any chance at some point a line has to be drawn.

most countries have a history of shitting on others or their own, i dont get annoyed by the germans let it go

I don't know what I have to let go I have no problem with the English as I said the past is the past but it is naive to think our proximity to you has no bearing what so ever on relations between us.

I think you are right insofar as the imperative to retain a strategic base to the west of the UK was the reason for partition in 1921, rather than the wishes of the Unionist population of the six counties.

I would say, however, that it appears to me, from your posts in this thread, that your statement that 'the past is the past' is a bit of an empty one, as it seems to me that you are still harbouring issues about British history which strongly influence your views today.

Yeah I would agree about my views but I would never condone any violence to achieve a political aim.Its hard not to have a negative slant on England the way history was taught when I was at school but I have Irish friends that still serve in your armed forces and love the country itself.I am also aware this is an English board and I don't want to be seen as deliberately stirring but sometimes it helps to put our side across.I live a small country town and soccer is still considered a foreign sport by some you should hear their views on 'the ould enemy' but I do feel my point was a valid one.

Free prescriptions in Scotland and no tuition fees. Wales are going the same way. Benefits galore to Falkland Islanders and £millions per day to subsidise Northen Ireland

It's alright these people wanting to stay part of the UK, why wouldn't they?

It's all good as far as they're concerned.

Okay, thats three times in three pages. Stop insinuating that the Welsh are free-loaders you boring, WUMing, IRA-respecting dribble of cock-snot.
Stick to what you know - fuck all.

*Stands and applauds* great post

Actually, as insults go, it wasn't that bad.

However, the Welsh are still free loaders, I am not boring, nor am a WUM (mostly). I do however have my own, non media dictated, opinions on the IRA, although I certainly don't respect what they've become or indeed much of what they did in past. Am I a "dribble of cock snot"? I doubt it myself, but I suppose everyone is entitled to an opinion.

As for me, knowing fuck all..... I know do one thing. You haven't got the wit to debate shit with me. So you should shut up and bugger off quietly.

No offence.

It may well be time to let your constant republican bleatings go.
Even to those such as myself who broadly favour a united Ireland, they are becoming somewhat tiresome.

Thanks for posting what I couldn't be arsed posting yesterday (well the first sentence).

In these hard times, the country can't afford to be subsidising remote Islands and bits of land like the Falklands and Gibraltar. Closer to home, Northen Ireland is costing us £billions every year and Scotland and Wales are busy looking after their own, providing free tuition and further education, using England's money. Meanwhile all we ever hear about here are cutbacks, increased charges, taxes and austerity.

Great Britan is too expensive. Sod the empire. They're like a bunch of 40 year olds still living off the parents. Time to cut loose, get rid and look after the home fires.

Fuck the UK. It no longer exists. Give us our own parliament too.
