Is it time to unmask the muslim woman?

doubt you,ll catch a muslim woman on a beach mate !!!!
maybe the fellas ,yea

-- Mon Jul 26, 2010 12:05 am --

nudist beach i meant !!!!!!

But do any of you genuinley come to a state of anxiety and worry at the sight of a Islamic woman in a Burca? I know that I don't and at my age I'd say I'm probably far more likely to become badly influenced by the women.

I'm more of a fence sitter, I've read the latest 5 pages aswell as the first 2 and can't really decide on my mindset. I suppose I'll pan it out before making any rash statements.

if these women were honest ,they would never ever choose to wear these garments !! they only wear them because the men insist ! and we tolerate this kind of intolerence !!!!!!!!!

My mum used to make me wear clothes when I wanted to run around naked, it doesn't mean you ban all clothes for kids. That is a separate issue that needs to be dealt with but this isn't the way to do it.

As you were 27 at the time I think she had a point.

-- Mon Jul 26, 2010 1:56 am --

Is this thread worth a read from the start?

No, i've just lost 1/2hr of my life i'm never gonna get back reading it all.

Schoolground bickering mate. Top and bottom of it is...

If you're for a burqa then you're a guardian reading lily livered liberal and if you're against then you're a jackbooted daily mail nazi.

Think that sums it up!

Isn't that how most 'serious' threads end up on here? I think as a matter of policy that after the opening post posing such a question as this burka one, the next post should be a Mail/Guardian tickbox. It would save all the disagreements, ranting, insults etc and we could see the way the wind was blowing in an instant. Also I would be unable to disrupt the flow of diatribe by posting frivolous inanities and would divert my efforts into more productive activities.

I enjoy your frivolous inanities, Salvador Dali would be proud of the surrealist remarks. So don't stop.

P.s. Good idea re the Guardian/Mail tick boxes. We should have one for Viz readers as well.

To sum up the thread, some people are concerned about the approach Britain has towards extremism and the increase of muslim extremists, hate preachers and the influx of these types in the UK and the others fall into the category of wanting to wait and see what happens, turn a blind eye and react when the situation is out of control.

Perhaps it is better to be proactive than reactive.
would hate to look back and say - if only we ....

I think we all fall into the category of wanting our children to be brought up in a safe environment though.

I wouldn't tick either box so that'd be pointless in my case plus I thoroughly enjoy your frivolous inanities.

You know, there are many Muslims who believe that it is vulgar for women to be walking around in bikinis, or men to be walking around in Speedos. It's a question of honour, for some sects of Islam, modesty is next to honour as something that promotes a stable individual. The burqa is the embodiment of that and many women wear it simply to be anti-skimpy (that's not a word but you know what I mean).

And that's fair enough....IN a Muslim country.
And as such, if in a Muslim country, we would HAVE to adhere to not dressing in those 'western' ways. Doesn't seem to work both ways though....

So instead of trying to encourage liberty elsewhere, we should reduce our own?

Really?

I'm no fan of the burqa and would like to see it voluntarily phased out of modern society rather than banned. However, my major problem with this thread is that a frightening number of ill-informed posters seem to equate things that they have read about hardline Islam in Saudi Arabia or Pakistan with the world's entire Muslim faith.
