Is it time to unmask the muslim woman?

If it is a matter of national security then why are other European countries (and others) not banning them?

See, that's not how arguments go...

not taking sides here but the fact is the french national assembly has voted to ban the burka in public & there's already a partial ban in holland although the dutch government wants to extend it.

and one of the july 21 london bomb gang did a runner in a burqa and evaded capture for 5 days.

I believe Belgium and Switzerland are banning them.

no surprise considering the UK and the lack of control our government seems to have that we have not acted yet!

We seem to capable of creating an environment without barriers to promote growth of Muslim extremism.

It's almost as if we want to build a safe haven for muslim extremists and hate preachers.

example the way we have treated the hook guy pretty much sums up our soft touch Britain attitude!

This 100%

I think people need to be honest and say why they want the Muslim woman to be "unmasked."

It's one, or possibly all, of a few things going on here;

1. People see the women as beholden to an oppressive male society bent on treating them as less than 2nd class citizens.
2. People see them as possible dupes and cover ups for the real terrorists.
3. People don't like to see their UK High Street littered with women looking different from what they think their UK High Street should look like.

if these women were honest ,they would never ever choose to wear these garments !! they only wear them because the men insist ! and we tolerate this kind of intolerence !!!!!!!!!

How do you know that?

Not saying some don't want to wear it and are heartily sick of being unable to embrace Westernism, but to say that every Muslim woman should be "unmasked?" What if some still want to wear it? For the older ones they may find that offensive.

How do you know that?

mate ,the muslim way of life is hardly well known for equality for women is it
if you did ask the women you really think they would reply honestly ,they are so brainwashed to be serviant to the men ,they know better than to challenge them !

That really is a monstrous sweeping generalisation. You're only referring to a certain interpretation of Islam; the vast majority of Muslim women don't wear Burkas.

Yep, our society is a bastion of light whereas Muslim society is based on brainwashing.

You know, there are many Muslims who believe that it is vulgar for women to be walking around in bikinis, or men to be walking around in Speedos. It's a question of honour, for some sects of Islam, modesty is next to honour as something that promotes a stable individual. The burqa is the embodiment of that and many women wear it simply to be anti-skimpy (that's not a word but you know what I mean).

It's funny actually, some young women across the Persian states put on the burqa simply as a form of rebellion. They dislike the westernisation of their culture that their mothers enjoyed and want a society based more upon their belief system of Islam. Due to this, they wear the burqas in the same way that our young women wear miniskirts, as a sort of fuck you to the parents. There was a great article about this written by a female US/Iranian in the New York Times a few months back.

What's the point of it? It's a load of old bollocks in the name of religion.

I walked round the end of an aisle in Asda and nearly jumped a mile when one of them appeared from nowhere behind a shopping trolley - shit me up for a minute. Then she started shouting at her 3 kids in a broad Northern accent.
