Is left back really a problem?

Not sure why we do not play three centre backs , we have three brilliant players in Dias,Stones and Laporte lets utilise them and adapt the system to our best players , with addtiona l cover from the central defenders the left back position wouldnt be such an issue , we could play either Zinchenko or Cancelo as a wing back.
With the current players at our disposal so much this. With four CBs to fill those three positions and Walker, Zinny and Cancelo to fill in as wing backs/extra midfielders we would have a very sound setup for this season. All of them would get plenty of matches and we would never have to see a certain calamity on the pitch again.

This formation makes a ton of sense in defence and then gets harder and harder to justify as you move upfield. Not sure how we'd get De Bruyne, Foden, Kane (or any striker) and Grealish into a formation with a back three.

3-4-2-1 maybe?

Stones
Dias
Laporte

Cancelo
Rodri
De Bruyne
Zinchenko

Foden
Grealish

Kane

I feel like that's a bit light in central midfield if De Bruyne goes wandering. You could do Rodri and Gündy in there, but then you'd need to fit De Bruyne into the front three somewhere.

We don't need to fit anybody in anywhere.....we constantly rotate!! Why are there so many posters that still haven't grasped this??
Pep doesn't even have a 'go to' strongest 11.....as proven in the CL final ;)

It most definitely is a problem because Mendy is finished. We can no longer pretend he’ll come good -because he was never any good as a defender on the first place and now he’s producing nothing going forward. In fact he’s a liability. I personally feel sorry for the Lad cos injuries have cost him severely and he could’ve been Lilian Thurman on speed but that’s the way it is.

He kinda does, though. Ederson, Stones, Dias, Zinchenko, Gündy, De Bruyne, Bernardo and Foden were all definite starters for that final. Sure he may switch one or two players around, but there are players who will be playing the vast majority of big games, and that would definitely include Grealish, De Bruyne, Foden and Kane

That a good team and formation , we only need one defensive midfielder and unfortunatley the couple of games i have watched Dinho so far have been average , Rodri has to be given the chance now to establish and prove his worth to the team.

No because we can play Laporte Zin and Cancelo there. Mendy can play backup till his contract ends which he looks happy to do.

A striker is the huge problem obviously and hopefully that will be Kane.

The next most important is position is getting a younger Fern replica (or as near as we can find) probably Ndidi. Which I imagine will be next Summer‘s transfer priority..a destroying DM like Fern or NDJ used to be.

The Dippers needed a left back (2017) and bought Andy Robertson from Hull for £10m. We were linked to that chap from Fulham (Antonee Robertson) surely a punt at even £20m or a part ex would suit Fluffnam and sort this shit out once and for all. If for nothing more than give natural balance to the team. The guy is young, fit and half decent IMHO.
