Is Mancini Going Crazy?

I think he means it's a better result for them...

I agree with Billy, its context is misinterpreted in Bobby's translation.

Yes, wasnt he justifying the implied comment that we aren't necessarily favourites and its still open?

I'm not sure of the logic in his 0-0 better than 1-1 comment ... perhaps he means keeping a clean sheet was the most important aspect of our play last night.

As for the Dzeko comment I don't see any problem with that, he's right after all. If Dzeko hasn't the mental strength to deal with it (which I seriously doubt with his past) then we've bought the wrong guy.

His idea of man management is.....not sure really.

His idea of man management is to spend the half time break at Old Trafford talking tactics in the tunnel with his staff.

"A 0-0 scoreline is dangerous," said Mancini. "A 1-1 scoreline, with an away goal, would be better, but it will be a different game in Manchester.

"Everything is open. We have a chance of going through because we play at home on a different pitch. Here the pitch wasn't good.

"I said before the game it would be difficult because the pitch wasn't good.

"Aris put 10 players behind the ball in the first-half and if we had scored they would have had to come out and play, but they could sit back and wait."

Above quote from the 'Mancini cranking it up' thread.

Looks like some journo making something up somewhere!

His remarks about Dzeko are different too....

First he publicly cricises the performance of new man Dzeko, which is hardly going to improve his confidence. Then he claims that 0-0 is a better result than 1-1...WTF? It now means that, if Aris score next week, we will have to score twice and that a 1-1 draw would knock us out. If he genuinely thinks that a 0-0 result is better than 1-1, no wonder we are struggling to win...

Mancini said of Dzeko: “I expect more but I think he needs to improve“.

“We played well, we played football and controlled the game. Aris stayed behind the ball. “It was a fantastic atmosphere,” he added. “Favourites? I think it is open – 0-0 is better than 1-1. We have a chance because we are at home. It will be a different pitch"
Where did you find these quotes ? Also when did he publicly criticise Dzecko ?

One thing like that doesn't reflect on his man management overall, at the end of the day neither me or you know what his man management is like. From the outside theres things we hear that are a worry but theres also things that we hear that are upbeat about it. He didn't really have a pop at Dzeko just said he needs to improve which he does

I understand why so few coaches criticize their players in public. It does little to improve their performance. Let's hope Dzeko gets a fire under his butt.

"We need to improve" is a Mantra of Mancini. I don't think I have ever heard a post match comment in which those lines do not appear. Be it a win , a loss or a draw. Mancini will always say, "we need to continue to improve." And he is not lying!

It does to me. He also went straight to his office after the 0-0 derby at COMS.

A large part of English football management is people management - manipulation if you like. Get into their heads and make them want to smash down walls for you - and believe they can.

He should have in that dressing room at half time, talking to them all one by one, geeing them up, telling them they are the better side. Talking about their individual battles, what to do second half.

Who was geeing them up? Les Chapman?
