You need a steady team with steady team positions and is he doesn`t know that already then he isn`t the great manager that we all thought he would be, and if some of his players are loosing confidence in him, then the season doesn`t look good. He either has too buck up and sort out a regular and good defence or loose the league title because europe is already finished.
He went for a 'steady' formation at kick off, and it wasn't working.
He tried to change things around a bit, and it made matters worse - that's just the way it goes sometimes. He then at least reverted, but it was all too late by then.
I don't see what's wrong with a manager trying to get a team to consider a different style of play sometimes. The fact that we haven't adapted to it particularly well unfortunate. But then you're still left with the issue:
Play one way, your 'best' way in every game, and accept that sometimes you'll come across a team where it doesn't work for you.
OR
Have an alternative system, and accept it might cost you points whilst you learn to get to grips with it, but hopefully, you've then got two strings to bow in terms of playing style.
Adaptability is a part of the game, if players can't adapt, then their value is diminished. That's not to say they don't have a role, of course they do, but a fair few players HAVE to be able to adapt not just game to game, but often in the middle of a game too.
Players get injured or sent off... you have to be able to cope.
So in my mind, he's not 'tinkering', he's trying to give us options, but it's coming at a price that fans don't want to pay... since on any given day, the fans will cry "play like last time, when we won" (whilst moaning about Silva looking tired from playing too many games)
