Is Rodri better than Yaya ?

They are typical football bloke fun discussions, that we would normally have regularly over a pint in a pub with mates. They just happen to be on social media which has a wider net.
I get that but there's hardly any football content on Twitter apart from these ridiculous questions. If your mate asked in the pub, you'd quickly shut them down if the comparison was ridiculous but on social media, it's simpletons voting for whichever player is at their club. It's akin to the fuckwits asking why Forest and Everton have been punished but City haven't. You go through the motions of trying to spell it out but it's a complete waste of time.

Different players in different roles. I'd say Rodri is more complete and certainly more consistent, but Toure got more goals playing in a more advanced position. I have to say, Rodri is like a hybrid of the best qualities of Fernandinho and Toure. By the time he's done, we might be talking about the greatest ever player in that position.

Decent assessment. Key word being consistency. Pretty much always a 7/10 if not higher every game. There were things that Yaya could do that Rodri can't, but I'd pick him ahead of Yaya every day as you know what you're getting. An absolute brut of a man, yet with elegance and grace with the ball at his feet. Clearly despises losing too as that record he has now can't be coincidental.

People talk about Haaland and the size of him and impact he has against players. But when you look at Rodri, wow! This guy/athlete/champion what ever you want to call him. He was born to win and play in the greatest team this country has ever seen... Manchester City!
Edit - so to answer the question. As an overall player I think now, yes he is.

I was looking at the stats of Rodri and Rice both are remarkably similar this season. Overall Rodri just edges it, although Rice is better offensively with his head:

Another website allows you to compare stats for a variety of players across entire careers or particular seasons. I put in Ferny, Yaya, Rodri and Rice over all careers.

It's interesting to see how they compare per 90 minutes in each category.

To bastardise a quote from Arsene Wenger, Rodri is the oil in our engine and the other components don't work without him. Results when he doesn't play prove that.

But when he was on it, Yaya could be the oil, the spark and the turbocharger. A bulldozer going forward or a tow truck to pull you out of trouble with a free kick.

So it's a tough call. Yaya for high-maintenance sporty excitement, Rodders for quietly consistent world-class luxury.

It's a bit like comparing a Porsche with a Rolls-Royce.

I never thought we'd replace Yaya, then we got Fernandinho who took us to the next level.

I then thought we'd never replace Fernandinho, then we got Rodri who took us to the next level and beyond.

I am convince we cannot replace Rodri, we will only find someone who can do a similar role. That is the respect I have for him. He controls that midfield like no other player I can think of. I wouldn't say the same of Yaya, despite what he did for us. I appreciate what Yaya did for City, I respect Rodri for what he has done.
