Stoning doesn't happen in any modern countries full stop, so that's a pretty silly statement. Stoning is a developing world problem.

Not quite a developing world problem, more of an old world problem, Iran and Iraq are part of the modern world but still use old world laws...

If that's the case then Nigeria, Sudan, Kenya and DR Congo should be as well, it's a fucking third world shithole that hadn't recovered from being blown to pieces by the Yanks when the latest round of shit hit it. As for Iran they're slightly better but they are far from modern.

Most of the Gulf countries allow for stoning in their laws and I would describe most of them as modern. To be fair it's not used often, they tend to prefer beheadings for capital punishment, particularly Saudi Arabia.

I wouldn't describe any as modern, a few are rapidly modernising but just because the buildings are new doesn't mean they've gotten there yet.

And religion gives them an excuse or justification to express this hate! There is no suggestion among anti religious people that there really is a god and it's him behind the hate and intolerance that manifests from religion. We are aware it's all man made nonsense, but that doesn't mean it's acceptable. The fact that man is behind religion is perfect justification to outlaw it.
