Is Shay's Place a Given?

I see where you are coming from with this, but you also have to question the managers contribution for this, week in week out evryone of us saw goals and chance after chance coming from set pieces, this is not gives fault, the defencewatch these games after and go andf train on them, (well thats what they are ment to) do but in our case seems like they said is "you guys go and have a sit down, you practice looking like you dont know each other and forget every bit of defending you've ever been taught" Ten mins later "great session lads, more of that in the game".
I honestly think if it wasnt for shay we would have lost a hell of alot more games, he's deserved more than just one player of the month, he's deserved them all. IMO to have a goalie as player of the month shows how shite the defence is, surely they will be taking note of this now under new management.

I am not a Shay Given fan. If he is as good as everyone makes out, then why does he not keep clean sheets..?? He didn't do it at Newcastle or Ireland and Does not do it for us. Harts Biringham City have been above us in the league this season and Dunn is looking much better at Villa than he ever did in front of Given. None of the big 4 clubs have ever looked at Given despite having goalkeeping issues. We currently have no one in the squad suitable to take his place, but I would like to see a new goalie signed in Jan and Given sent packing to the dole queue

Agreed... our inability to defend will without question be most peoples predominant memory when they look back at Hughes's tenure at our club in years to come.

remember Given wasn`t Hughes first choice that was Friedel and he chose Villa and i`d have been happier with that .I`m not getting on Shays case by the way

without given the derby score would of been 7-3

so go on you muppet

What's with the abuse, he made some good points.

Maybe if Given had come for the crosses that led to Fletcher's goals we would have won that game.

In part I think it was because Friedel was on the market that off-season, Shay wasn't, until things fell apart during the season for Newcastle.

to question given as a world class keeper is well and truely one of the most pathetic things ive read on this site!

Shay is unquestionably a fantastic shot stopper! FACT!

but....

A keeper plays a massive part in organising a back line... particularly at set peices.

Since Shay came into the team wwe have looked shambolic defensivly... een the collossus that is Richard Dunne, looked shakey in front of Given last season.

Defense was for a long time our strength... this coincided with a string of former world class keepers in goal.. Schmichel, Seaman, James etc.

Shay came from Newcastle... a team also renouned for shambolic defending... particularly at set pieces!

coincedence?????

(TIN HAT ON!)
Seamen ho ho ho.

and james ho ho ho
