Is Shay's Place a Given?

to question given as a world class keeper is well and truely one of the most pathetic things ive read on this site!
You think his command and distribution, put him in the world class catagory?

his distribution is a concern however regarding his command, being a defender myself i know that it is a defences job to get the ball away from the goal (set pieces/crosses) not the goalkeepers. our defence is an absolute shambles at the moment, not one of them knows how to head a ball. shay has been absolutly fantastic this year and only deluded fukwits could suggest otherwise. sorry for my language but i believe it it neccasary.

Your right about the area, it's kind of the old chicken or the egg thing, is his command not great because the back 4 is a shambles or are the back 4 a shambles because his commands not great. I tend to agree that it's more the former.

To be fair to you, you've raised a good point.

But once the defence is breached, you have your goalkeeper.
Our goalkeepr who has saved 2 penalties this season, and got his hand to the one that went in.

What you have to understand is that while Given is back there, organizing the defence, our captain (Touré) is also back there, and it is his job to organize the team once out on the pitch.
(Whether the captaincy is subject to change I dont know).

Given has saved us enough times this season already and I feel much more confident on penalties now we have Shay.

And plus, Taylor's Shit.

without given the derby score would of been 7-3

so go on you muppet

You won't last long on here with that attitude mate. No need to call people just because you disagree.

As far as Shay is concerned, he's not as highly rated at other Prem clubs, in fact the scousers have a long running thread about how poor he is, on RAWK. Only Ireland, Toon and City fans think he's the best. Quite a lot of people think he's the most overrated keeper in the Prem.
He is an excellent shot stopper, but I suppose you have to be when you're stranded on the goal line and you don't come for crosses.

How much of a nob are you? you've been here a day and all you do is slag people off calling them muppets football is a game of opinions think you need to realise that!

Of course Given should be guaranteed his place.

However, the opening post does, inadvertedly, touch on another interesting point.

Who remembers last December when, desperate for scapegoats, Hughes decided that Joe Hart would be one of the people he blamed for his inability to get results and successfully mould a team.

All of a sudden we were constantly being told by Hughes and certain journalists, that City were shit at defending because they had a novice keeper in net. Never mind that he had played really well for 18 months and is a brilliant keeper.

No, no, no. The Great Mark Hughes, this wonderful manager, was being made to look inept because he was being forced to play Joe Hart and not a vastly experienced keeper.

(Well, that wasn't the only reason given for Hughes looking shit, he made sure that plenty of other people - players, staff, ex staff - got fingered for the blame in the snide stories too)

Lo and behold, one of the best keepers in world football for the past 10 years comes in, performs brilliantly and we still look shit at defending for the next 12 months.

Meanwhile, Joe Hart, probably justifiably, feels really let down and like he has been shit on.

Load of shite he does organise the defense,he may stay on his line but alot of the goals are just down to shocking marking.Take the two Sunderland goals the crosses were whipped in flat so no keeper would have come for them. It's now the in thing to say oh Given stayed on his line again, captain Kolo has a fair bit to answer for.
Also his distribution is decent some of the low kicks he sends out the wide players are very good. Can look bad at times when he kicks it down the middle whilst our 6-3 striker stands and watches it,might see a difference now we actually have a target man though.

THIS. our defence needs to book up, not shay.
