Not really. Would you be happy with Adebayor playing left back if we won the first 3 games??

So your saying that playing an attacking midfeilder as a central midfielder is the exact same as playing a striker as a full back?

If not, admit your above point is idiotic.
Damn you with you arguement destroying post!!

Seriously though, Stevie is being wasted!!! ;)

Maybe, but he was being played in a role where he had full freedom last year, and we didn't suceed.

he might be limited, but him playing the way Hughes is telling him to is allowing the team to perform better, so ultimatlyhe is not being wasted, because we are winning games.

;-P

Ooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrr Shiiiiiiiiitt!

I think it might be better if we dropped SWP and played kompany / de jong along side barry, giving superman more freedom.

I'm sure Stevie Ireland is quite happy with his role - he's putting in 100% every game and dosen't look as though he feels he's being wasted.

And why the fuck does everybody want to drop Shawnie? Him and Ireland are the 2 players I look forward to seeing most.

Also wake up - Kompany is injured.

Like other people have said, at the minute I don't see why Ireland needs to be playing in a free role. We are playing well and winning games so the system is obviously working. It offers us an extra dimension having a deep playmaker, ala Xabi Alonso.

However, I do think that has the season goes on Stevie will be used in a more forward role in certain matches with de Jong and Barry as holding midfielders. Don't worry, it's not even a problem!

Ireland is our main midfield treat that has a couple of goals in him. This season 3 games in he has already scored a goal which isnt too bad and had chances in our last home game that he would have normally scored from. He still gets forward but not as much as he should be in the games. It will change back to the 2 holding midfielders and Ireland for some of the bigger games but I think having those 3 in the team at the sake of a Tevez or Robi could well be worth a look at for those games and the long run as well.

I think Ireland and Lampard at Chelsea this season so far are asked to do something they dont normally like to do. Lampard is playing were Ireland would like to play for City while Ireland is playing were Lampard wants to play at Chelsea still both players are doing a good job but we dont see them at there best for the clubs. It will all work it self out over the next couple of games once everyone knows there roles it will be better for all.

Not quite sure about being wasted but Ireland and SWP re being played out of position at present and I think it does contribute to why we're perhaps not dominating games as much as we could do.

Ireland's main strengths are his vision, ability to play delicate through balls, ability to get into good forward positions and his overall workrate. To me that suits an attacking midfield role much more. I was quite frustrated at times yesterday watching him trying to hit 40 yard passes which just isn't his game.

SWP is not, and never will be, a central midfield player. If he starts it has to be out wide. He looks so much more effective there. Having said that the only time I've seen him really effective at CM was against Arsenal at home last season and that game is up next.

In my opinion we need to play with a similar midfield style to the bindippers at the end of last season with either Kompany (when fit) or DeJong in the Mascherano defensive role, Barry in the Alonso role and Ireland given a freer role a la Gerrard. SWP, Robinho and Tevez would then compete for the 2 places supporting Adebayor.

I'm sure we'll win plenty of games the way we're playing at present but just think we might do it with more comfort and style if payers were playing in positions more suited to their games, even if that means one of our bigger names having to sit on the bench.

4-4-2 doesn't suit him or Robinho.

But they are winning and that's what counts so you there's not much that you can criticise (I'd like to see more of an ability to capitalise on periods they are on top but it's a work in progress, I suppose).

I think, and I hope, that the 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation will be used in matches still this season. Probably against the better teams. Not only is it better suited to some opponents but it gets the best out of Robinho and Ireland, possibly the most important creative players at the club.

(When I say it gets the best out of Robinho, I actually think that him given a free role as a second striker would do that, but, as I don't think that is going to happen, he is more suited to playing on the left of that formation than a 4-4-2)
