Is the club going to put in an official complaint about the officiating on Saturday?

That's up for debate. After watching that match what makes anyone so sure that if Haaland or Phil had scored the official and/or VAR wouldn't have cooked something else up to assist the Geordies?
This result for Newcastle was itself a VAR, a video assisted result...
I get where you’re coming from, and I am as frustrated as anyone. But, there is a fine line between understanding that the football establishment don’t like us, and going full into full Scouse victim mode, and we need to be better than that. Since VAR came in we have had some shocking decisions, but we have also had plenty go our way - Stones goal at Wolves, Bernardo penalty at Arsenal, VVD offside goal. Fans of our main rivals argue constantly that we get everything. The VAR system and the people operating it are crap, they are not competent enough to be running a conspiracy.

I really don’t mind a few inches here-or-there margins of error for the VAR offside system.

I actually think that even if Guimaraes’ toenail was offside and it was disallowed, I’d have said that’s too harsh on attacking football and gives no benefit of the doubt to the attacking team. We shouldn’t be looking for reasons for goals to be disallowed (unless something blatant is missed) and we should be looking for reasons for goals to stand as much as possible.

The overall thing is that the tiny margin for error we may have now is a miles better system than when these were called wrong without VAR…

The #23 in the offside position here scored in this playoff semi, no VAR in this game, the goal stood, and Orient got to Wembley:

VAR hadn’t yet come into the sport and Sane was given offside in the CL game against Liverpool here, when it was Milner who played the ball back to him, not a City player playing the ball forward to him… this goal would have made it 2-0 on the night and 2-3 on aggregate:

Scholes was flagged offside here in the CL quarters against Porto, this would have put Utd 2-0 up but this was disallowed and Porto equalised later on and went though on away goals (lol and all that, but it’s a shit decision, there are three players playing him onside):

This^ is what we’ve got VAR offside systems for because this was happening somewhere all the bloody time and it was becoming a joke when other sports had had video refs for decades.
Come on, you can't be bringing well thought out rationale arguments backed up with evidence into this debate that's just not fair ;)

Coulda would a shoulda. If it really is a red cartel why did they not allow Van Dik's goal and give a penalty to the rags last night to give two very recent examples?

The referee must be in charge of the VAR team not the other way round. The ref should have asked to see the screen on the Foden pen shout. The VAR is refereeing games. The offside was marginal and it’s ok to give the attacker the benefit of the doubt.

It's Tuesday, and I still have not moved on from the terrible refereeing decisions during the match at Newcastle. I accept that you will not always get key decisions in your favour because some decisions are not as black and white as we would like them to be. But, for 3 big decisions to go against City in one game beggars belief. I hope City have picked the phone up or requested a meeting with PMGOL and asked for specific reasons as why decisions were made with clear reference to laws of the game.

Handball - hand was not in a natural position when the ball hit it

Foul on Foden - it is irrelevant that Foden has just taken his shot - if a player stamps/kicks a player anywhere on the pitch it is a foul and if it happens in the box it is a penalty. Otherwise, all players would kick players after they've made a pass or kicked the ball (which is clearly bloody bananas).

Offside - the call was marginal, but the ridiculous AI generated image did not align with the laws of the game so the goal should have been offside. And, there was potentially a foul on Donnarumma in the build too.

The ref allowed Newcastle players to continue to kick/push/shove our team throughout the game e.g. Tonali on Doku. How Tonali was still on the pitch again beggars belief?!

I think there is an unspoken rule for VAR to avoid over turning the refs decision on the pitch even if it is wrong. I hope City get their best people in front of the PMGOL and see how they squirm. City are due an apology. The PMGOL have done a few of those in the last 12 months or so. That game at the weekend warrants it. If City decide to be passive that is disappointing. I am not saying make a complaint like Liverpool did, but instead to professionally challenge the PMGOL and eye ball them.

City should have had a point from that game. Newcastle played well (in a robust/combative way), but they needed 3/4 big decisions to go there way in order to get any points from the match.

Anyway, I am hoping tonight's game helps me move on. Come on City!

Great, how many points do we get from that.
Leaving the sarcasm aside, thats all they do - apologise. Didn't Bournemouth or Brighton get about three last year, presumably costing them league places and/or money. Seems little point in doing anything other than highlighting where there are concerns behind the scenes to hopefully train those in the laws of the game...

I’m more upset at the non-offside than the non-penalty decision because of the manipulation, the nonsense graphics and the dodgy explanations.

It would seem that as ever, the best team in the land and all the world has a tolerance level of more than 5 cm.

If we don’t win anything this season and never complain, PGMOL /EPL could present us with not with a cup but more aptly, a toleration champions mug. I’m sure our red friends in North London would approve.

Whilst we are football royalty (never complain - never explain) perhaps this one needs professionally calling out if only to stop the muppet commentators and amoeba brained pundits telling us that some decisions are subjective whilst others, like offside decisions are a fact.

No they are not.

The offside was outside a 5cm tolerance. That’s just more gaslighting as everyone can see with the naked eye it was offside so it has to be far more.

Like in rugby the ref asks the TMO to look at an incident and put different angles up on screen till they find the appropriate one where they can get the right judgement while talking to each other, which can be heard in stadium and at home on tv ..

Are you suggesting that the Semiautomated Offside system of 30 cameras that generate an AI decision is calibrated to favour some teams and not others?
In the PL, the cameras track the players to automatically generate the offside line at the precise moment the ball is kicked. The VAR then reviews the technology-generated decision and the correct "kick-point" before approving it.

Other systems, such the Euros and the World Cup, a sensor inside the football itself is used, in addition to cameras. These combined technologies are able to identify the exact "kick-point" and apply the VAR lines accordingly.

So, why has the PL chosen a system that is open to human interpretation when it could so easily have gone for a system that almost eliminated any element of doubt about offside lines? I can think of two possibilities.

1. They are expecting a large legal bill soon and the PL is being careful with its money.

2. The organisation whose Chief Executive Officer said "a competitive Manchester United was necessary for the league's health", and had devised a strategic plan to ensure there was a new winner of the PL every six years, wishes to maintain some control over decisions that impact the outcome of games.

If you think the offside system in the PL is not open to human manipulation, then you are being extremely naive.

I think the team will be galvanised tonight. They, especially Pep, respond well to injustice. We will batter Leverkusen.
