Managala and Otamendi were hardly the regular starting CBs during the centurions season

Mangala not. Otamendi is in the starting line up for the majority of matches for that season. And even at his best Otamendi was not as good as what we've got now.
Incidentally I'd argue that even as back-up Ake is a whole level or two in terms of footballing skill above Mangala.

I’m not going to argue with that, and I don’t even particularly rate Ake. The Mangler was pound for pound one of our worst ever signings

Let’s not forget the Dutch team in 1974. They not only played amazing football, it’s was also new ( total football ) that even today is the basis of what Pep is bringing g to City.

I’m sure Pep would name that side in his top 3.

But what’s the use when circumstances were so different than and now. Better stick with the City teams under Pep. From that point of view I’d agree today is the most balanced. And I like to think what it’s like when we play a CF that can also play like a midfielder.

Concur, this team was something else. Our current team is a beautiful well oiled machine that purrs efficiency but as you said that front 6 of the centurions was so fluid and dynamic it was breathtaking!

Our 2017-19 side is the best City team for me. In terms of greatest ever team I have seen, it’s Pep’s Barca and I don’t think it’s even close. Never seen a team make top European teams look like mugs like that Barca side.

The Liverpool team of the early 80s was previously the greatest team I had seen on these shores.

The Brazil 1982 team is the best team I ever watched on TV.

But this City team and level of performance since 2017-18 is consistently on a par with Pep's greatest Barca team and easily the best this country has ever seen, not even close.

Puskas' Hungary of the early 50s. Plus a few other teams from the 50s. Golden era for Chinese Music and films too. But current City team certainly up there with any team with the best yet to come.

Brazil in 1970 was best international side that I have seen.

This Pep's City teams are better than that Liverpool side.

Before my time, sadly.

I was eight in 1982 and I had never seen football played the way that Brazil team did of Zico (my early hero), Junior, Socrates, Falcao.

Still the greatest spectacle I have seen from any team, but they were bat shit crazy going forward and didn't even need to play the way they did against Italy, but they only ever played to win.

Greatest team to not win the World Cup, certainly?

I first remember Zico taking the piss out of that great Liverpool team for Flamengo in 81.

Much as I think Maradona is still the greatest player I have seen in my lifetime, my heart belonged to Brazil after '82.
