I suppose I shouldn't see his signing in isolation. Currently he isn't what we need but we if he's available in January and Defensive and Midfield players in the summer we'd have a great team next year.

Isco in January would be good for our domestic football.

I can see him being heir apparent to Yaya rather than Silva.

Am I right that he would be cup tied for Champions League matches?

He can but he is an attacking midfielder. Would you say Isco plays the same position as Thiago or Gundoguan? No. And sure he could replace one of those two but that leaves us with Merlin, KDB, Raheem and Isco. One of those four on the bench for every match will leave someone VERY unhappy.
