If Isco is fighting for his place then the real reason why Germany won the World Cup is that they put their towels on the "playing seats" in their respective changing rooms well before anyone else.

It was not about changing their methods 10 years ago but getting up at 4:30am, it all makes sense!!!

Given what we have do we really need Isco? It was clear last season that we needed to supplement 4 positions, 3 of which are sorted and the other seems to be well in hand.

We have a wealth of great attacking midfield options so why this mad urge to add to it? Its obviously nice to sign new players but not when theres no real point.

You could say that for Madrid, Barca, Munich etc.. but they continue to sign top attacking player after another. I don't think you can have too many great players. Silva has had injury issues with his ankle and misses games. Having someone to replace him would be ideal. Particularly since he's a better goal scorer, faster, can take people on plus he's younger etc.. When you compare us to the other elite teams in Europe we don't have nearly as many elite players.

Another major issue which gets bypassed in threads like this is that given the expectation we are to sign Mangala, then we will have 19 registered overseas players on the books which means that to add Isco to the squad, three existing players will have to move on to include him in the Premier League, and an extra body will have to be omitted from the CL too. So given the problem of moving on unwanted homegrown players if only to get the wage bill down, then which of our elite group of overseas players should we be prepared to ditch, whilst keeping a balanced squad and also to keep this part of the wage bill down so as to accommodate a high earner like Isco?

It isn't easy and it just won't happen.

Caballero was a foolish signing in my opinion, could have easily purchased a talented young home grown goalkeeper.

That's where you are wrong. He has been brought to provide competition for Hart and maybe displace him, not be a "functional reserve goalie"

It was only pointless if you think Txiki and Soriano don't know what they're doing and don't have plan. I think you'll find they do have a plan.

He would have cost significantly more than what we paid for Caballero.

The club obviously have an idea as to where they wish to go with regards to meeting the required squad criteria and would only have signed Caballero with that in mind.

Also, Pellegrini obviously wants competition for places rather than mere backup in numbers; can you name a HG 'keeper willing to and capable of challenging for a starting spot with England's number one AND would fit in our budget?

You make it sound like FFP has completely paralysed us, this is simply folly. Forster would have been affordable and would have supplied sufficient competition. Not that Joe Hart isn't going to play every single remotely significant game next season, whilst the player supposedly here to provide stiff competition will basically play the Capital One Cup and nothing more.

We should be buying this lad Isco, the Rodriguez and Kroos transfers coupled with Bale, Ronaldo and Modric makes it virtually impossible for him to be anything more than an occasional substitute, he must know this. This is also withstanding the possible departures of Khedira and Di Maria. We’re not desperate for creative midfielders, however, when players of this quality become available it is prudent to make exceptions.

Willy Caballero or Isco…

It’s nothing personal against Caballero, it is about the role at the club he is going to fill and how wasteful we have been in this instance with allocation of overseas player births.
