The Insider: Manchester City to turn to Isco again

MANCHESTER CITY TURN TO ISCO

Manchester City's decision to abandon their pursuit of Marco Reus could ultimately have a silver lining in the shape of Real Madrid playmaker Isco, the Insider understands.

Goal revealed earlier this week that the Premier League champions' interest in Reus, which dates back to the summer of 2013, had subsided after the club were given a strong indication that the player would prefer a move to Real Madrid.

City are understood to feel aggrieved having previously been given reason to believe the player was keen on a move to the Etihad Stadium but will again turn their attentions to Isco, should Reus ultimately end up signing for the Spanish giants.

The Spain international came tantalisingly close to linking up with his former Malaga mentor Manuel Pellegrini in the summer of 2013 before a late change of heart, which caused much consternation among the City hierarchy, saw him opt to join Real Madrid instead.

The 22-year-old endured a difficult first season at the Bernabeu in which he struggled to oust the likes of Gareth Bale and Angel Di Maria from Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Isco's opportunities to impress have increased so far this season and the player has grown to become a favourite of notoriously demanding Bernabeu faithful.

Should Reus' ambition to join Real Madrid become a reality, however, Isco's position as a regular starter would again be in jeopardy and Goal understands City would reignite their interest should such a scenario arise.

Disco again ?

If Real do consider selling him I reckon they'll want 35m plus for him.

His stock has risen since he went there and Real won't be doing us any favours.

Totally piss everyone off with FFP by signing him for £20 million but knock 15 million on the finance package for the Bernabeau

I concede... I wasn't too bothered for us not signing him, thought he is overrated but boy, he has a very good season at Madrid.

logicallly for madrid it would make sense selling Ronaldo at a hugely inflated rate and get reus in...but I think he will stay especially after his best season.

Jese, Bale, benazema or isco: one of those will surely leave then
