so re the two female officers that were murdered, you dont agree that had they had guns they could well still be alive ?

GMP have armed units that should have been sent to that house.
The thick fuckers sent 2 coppers with no intelligence or warning about the nutter inside. He opened the door and blasted them. They wouldn't have had a chance to get a gun out, never mind fire it.
If armed, creggan could've taken their guns while they were helpless and gone on a rampage.
I won't bother mentioning the grenades he had.

Stoner.I suggest you rephrase that because those so called thick ***** are my colleagues. I know the radio operators who were on duty that day. You know the sum total of fuck all in reality to what actually happened. When you have been a radio operator for 15yrs in GMP like I have ,then come back to me and tell me I don't know my job or my colleagues don't know there job! No intelligence...You are talking shite..The intelligence was there but if someone rings up reporting a burglary and I receive the job to allocate to my resources I certainly won't be looking at potential intelligence for that address-It was a report of a burglary, not of a male with a gun or hand grenades.

Oh cops do not want to be armed - full stop.

The ones that do tend to join the Armed Response units!

Apologies to you SHB. Perhaps my wording was a little strong there.

But, a massive police hunt in the area for a nutter on the loose. A burglary in that area in the daylight, the house of mate of cregans, cregan making the call etc etc.
Given the situation at the time i think the cops could've been a bit more cautious.
I realise you can't investigate every emergency call before sending a unit round but these were exceptional circumstances.

Stoner..no need to apologise but let me tell you this without going into the detail.
The operation to catch Cregan was huge. I for one got plenty of 12hr double bubble out of it over a period of 8 weeks. You state they should have had a massive police hunt in the area?? The polices resources were drained for a long time trying to locate Cregan and his associates. In relation to the emergency call..You would be surprised how many people use 999 to ring for non emergencies (because it is free). A report of a burglary on a 999 call is in no way exceptional circumstances.
Unfortunately, fate that day meant those 2 police officers were to be killed in the line of duty. A tragedy but it could have been anyone. My colleagues who sent the girls to the job were left traumatised for a period and required a bit of time off work. 99% of the jobs I and my colleagues allocate are normal run of the mill shit but the 1% are horrendous but unfortunately this goes with the territory.

I meant they had a massive hunt ongoing, which are the 'exceptional circumstances' i refer to. Under such circumstances i'd have thought all calls in the immediate search area would've been treated with extra caution (if only we had more coppers eh?)

Strangely, that brings us back round to the armed or not question. Perhaps we have it right in the UK, armed police but only deployed when needed and not as a matter of course for beat officers.

Which is what normally happens but there are some circumstances where normal response officers can initially assess incidents where firearms are reported.
It's a no brainer for me mate. We should never routinely arm police officers and as previously mentioned 80% of the police do not want it anyway

I don't want to see guns on our streets to be honest with you, it wouldn't make me safer. Plus it would do a lot to make the situation worse than defuse it.

No because police have a tendency to kill brown people for some strange reason when they have access to guns. Even without them the number of brown people who "die" in custody or during arrest is too high.

I get stopped and searched all the time and I work an office job imagine if those bastards had guns. No way its better how it is now.

Even the ones they currently arm have got stuff wrong. Not a chance I'd want the entire police force armed, would make me feel very very unsafe
