Forgot he went to Cardiff, though it almost certainly explains why Dave and Gary Bennett went there

I always wondered if Halford kept a journal/diary. That man would have known where all the bodies were buried
 
Often feel that Swales saw himself in Allison,both being brash type of characters,possibly he may have felt Tony Book to be not high profile enough for his own ego,as it was always centred on Swales being the main man,and perhaps Allison reflected that publicity onto Swales,which narcissistic people are usually good at doing.

looking back now, Manchester city would have had a great chance of catching or competing over the next 5 years in chasing Liverpool if they stuck with Tony Book's team, we were close in terms of fighting on a level playing field and won silverware, OK it was the league cup but what a base to work from with the youth we had

I'm not so sure, City finished 1978-79 in 15th which was a very disappointing season by the standard of the previous ones. This being part of what caused Swales to act & bring back Allison, practically bankrupting the club in the process over the next few months/years.

Now, I'm not saying if a better appointment had been made with more shrewd investment/decision making (ie. not selling all of our international players) we could of got back competing again, I think we could have, but we certainly were nowhere near Liverpool/major honours in that final season under Book.

As others have suggested, that season we threw the kichen sink at an exciting UEFA Cup campaign?

Somebody else pointed out that playing in Europe may have taken its toll on the team and that's why we finished 15th, but in a short space of time Swales and city let Allison dismantle a very good squad built by Tony book and spend all our money on worst players than we already sold,
