What do you think it would take for a revolution to happen in modern society?

It strikes me that as a world we have become Sheople. The majority of us on social media, watch reality tv, on zero hour contracts, earn minimum wage, prices going up, taxes going up, social care being squeezed, corporations getting away with not paying into society as much.

I'm wondering why people, as a society, continually work against their own self interests and, therefore, think "why should I [fill in the blanks]?".

What will it take for things to change...?

I'm genuinely interested in the thoughts of all sides.

I see no reason to change - everything works quite nicely for most - your justifications for it sound like probable extracts from the Labour Party Manifesto.... says it all.

Because we are not starving and are relatively well off

just some are doing much better

I agree with this, I took my brother to the airport yesterday and good god the car park in Terminal 3 was like a Mercedes/BMW/Jag dealership. I didn't think I did that badly but jesus a lot certainly seem to be doing very nicely for themselves..

I know a lot of people in their very early 20's at our place and none of them are driving a sh**y 10 year old Astra like I was at their age. Half my mates who are now touching 30 have 3/4 bedroom houses, solid jobs.. I don't know anyone who is struggling at all. Me and the mrs went to Ikea last week and we had to nearly park in a field because it was that busy.

If you go into town on a Saturday it is hard for me to agree that 'the majority' are poor or in some way struggling.

I think there are a lot of people struggling without a doubt but I cannot see how there is any majority who are less well off and in any form of severe poverty.

You only have to look at the number (and type) of cars parked on streets with terraced housing these days compared to a generation ago. That said, there can be no doubt that some people have been totally left behind by these advances in living standards - and they are people who have little or no voice.

In this country I don't think it can happen to be honest for the reasons you say. Only exception would be Northern Ireland in different circumstances. It'd have to be something really extreme to get this public up in arms.

Just wait 'til the next generation of Kardashian and Instagram obsessives are the generation of bread earners.

Who do you mean when you say "quite nicely for most"...?

I didn't mention 'justifications', I mentioned some examples and then asked what would cause modern society to revolt. I even stated that I didn't care if you were for or against it, just what it would take.

If you can't be objective, then why contribute...?
