Items you never see nowadays

It was a very serious business back in the day because how clean your step was defined how house proud you were to the neighbours. If one or two came out then within minutes and never to be outdone the whole street would come out to play. You were a nobody if you didn't donkey stone. Also your empty milk bottles and windows had to gleam and you had to be seen to be clean because the neighbours would gossip as that was their social media back then.

You used to get Donkey stones if you did a trade with the 'Rag and Bone Man' ..... you don't see them any more either. They used to ride around in horse and cart and often had a bucket swinging from the back . Every time the horse did a shit it was collected and put in the bucket. Yes......... they used to sell that as well

No one says "any road" anymore, my nan used to say it all the time. She would call pop or fizzy drinks "mineral water" and tap water "corporation pop".
Yeah my Nan used to call all fizzy drinks “mineral”...

On that note: going to the shop to refill those glass bottles with mineral

The outdoor counter at the pub, trolleys, the sort you made with a plank of wood an some pram wheels, paraffin heaters, kitchen wall units with sliding doors, a classroom of children with only one/two fat ones, 40 inch bags(the trousers I mean). bovril crisps, that chewing gum with the runny bit in the middle, cresta pop, cb radios, those little war comics with the glossy cover(where the germans would say mein gott,or achtung just before they were slaughtered), cinema usherettes who showed you to your seat with a torch and came with a tray of stuff during the interval too.
I know a lot of these are not items as such, and apologies if any already mentioned or still seen now. Oh, and a bbc that is quality and not biased, agenda driven, complacent and believing itself to be above any recourse for its actions.

I used to love flying a kite when I was a kid, especially on family holidays at the coast. I used to tie the string to the back of a deckchair and on a breezy day it would stay up, till the incoming tide drove us off the beach. Kites and deckchairs both seem to be things of the past.

Deckchairs are everywhere. You can get them from asda for about £15.

There's a kite festival in Brighton every year.

What are donkey stones? Is that what someone with big bollocks got called at school?!

As someone above mentioned, used to colour the sides of your doorstep. The dipped in the middle because it wore down. Given by the rag and bone man in return for your worn out clothing and 'rubbish'.
