I don't think your 2nd paragraph is being realistic. It's easy to confuse a fans ambitions with a players.

If we can keep him with us, and happy to be here, us fans will be happy, he will win medals, and have fleeting chances to shine on occasions, but whether that is enough is the big debated question.
