Seems really pointless selling Aké, especially if we then have to spend about the same on a replacement.

I wouldn’t sell him by choice but the club’s policy is to sell players who want to leave the club

providing the buying club meets our valuation.

It could be a good opportunity for the club to target a market we don’t usually get to go for, the hidden gem or 18/19 year old prospect who’s about to burst onto the scene instead of going after them 18 months later when they cost 5x as much.

The scouting department knows who all these players that clubs like Leicester get, we just can’t buy them because we usually need instant performers.

That model works for us though because we go for the 14 year old prospects and selling a few of those at 18-23 helps us break even and ensures the first team squad is full of largely proven performers.

If we needed to, you are right though, we will have the right names.

Arthur Theate, Felix Uduokhai or Attila Szalai would all be solid budget options too IMO. Even Alessio Romagnoli could do a job on a free transfer.

Think we’re better off utilising Mbete as 4th choice if we aren’t going to replace Ake with another PL-level CB. At least he’s slot into the system with a good level of familiarity rather than gambling on a new £15m face.

Priority of course should be to keep Ake!!
