It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

And then went and bought Bernardo and then Grealish as well.

You are right, semantics a little bit. You get the point though, and in the context of discussion on squad size, that's still a player down. As it stands at least, currently.
Sort of,(was Bernardo after David ?) but if game time wise Palmer starts as many games as Jesus for instance or even Torres did then it isn't anything to worry about. It's only a problem if Pep doesn't think Palmer is ready to start at least the cup games and a few league games.
Just to add it's only perhap 3 seasons ago we only really had the 21 players no club trained and the u 21s we had weren't really first team players. So even if we go with 20 plus Foden and Palmer we are better off.

I know what you mean, and at risk of going round in circles, while I still disagree and would like and almost expect to see another attacking player come in, I fully see the logic to an extent and am open minded to that being the club's preference going into the season.

I can still agree with someone when they say something similar to what I feel, i.e that they think Sterling needs replaced.

I might put this post on three threads as it applies to them all.

I just listened to Why Always Me podcast with Pol Ballus and Sam Lee and they said that City will not now sign Cucurella until they either know Ake is staying or sign a replacement for Ake. Pep is insisting on 4 centre backs as a priority and, as a result, all City’s efforts are going into sorting this out. Only then will they try for Cucurella later in the window. The expectation is that they will get him in the end too. Zin is staying.

They also discussed why would City let Chelsea disrupt their plans like this when the obvious thing to do is keep Ake, sign Cucurella and finish. They didn’t know why other than City must have a plan and have a good reason for it in addition to only doing one deal at a time.

So if they are right keep an eye on the centre half situation before the left back signing.

That will be the sum total of City’s business and they are going as fast as they can looking for a CH but no names have been leaked so far though Pol says he is constantly trying to find out.

So it’s either one more in and none out OR two more in and one out.

It would make more sense from the outside to get Cucurella in and then we can’t lose but the feeling was that the Ake deal was much more advanced than Cucurella and City want to finish it off one way or another asap.

My own opinion is that it comes down to money. I think City are looking to use the Ake money to buy a decent centre half for less money than they receive for Ake. This excess then goes towards the Cucurella deal.

Hope the above helps. I’m just the messenger.

Watch City sign Cucurella later today now!
I would love us to sign Cucurella but wonder if the Ake situation & is ability to cover left back is what Pep is deciding on. If we sign Cucurella 1st & then Nathan decides that Chelsea is a better option, signing a cb who only plays one position would be harder to sign and offer game time

Just to add it's only perhaps 3 seasons ago we only really had the 21 registered players no club trained and the u 21s we had weren't really first team players. So even if we go with 20 registered plus Foden and Palmer we are better off than then, and they are all top level players, I think that's what I mean by saying the squad isn't particularly shallow.

We missed out on the CL because we missed about 15 clear cut chances across both legs and pep effectively threw the FA cup semi. You could argue walkers injury hindered us in Madrid but be honest, we battered them across both legs and have only ourselves to blame
We threw the fa cup at the semi final stage (again) as everyone said we needed to rest players at that stage. That horrible team managed to play every single game last year, as mentioned during the season their depth probably eclipsed ours. Considering our recourses I don’t want us to get deep into a comp and feel we have to forfeit it

"threw the FA cup" fuck off lmao we had 100 minutes vs atletico madrid away with those cunts injuring half our team, they had a leisurely walk in the park vs benfica. they could play (and they did) their first team in the FA cup because of it, we couldn't because it was physically impossible. had absolutely fuck all to do with depth. if the situation was reversed we would have destroyed their 2nd team with our 1st team.

Mendy and Torres played what 10 combined games last season?

No one said we shouldn’t sign anyone else but to panic about it writing 3 paragraphs about how much we are too stretched - despite the fact we’re the most successful team in the Country year in year out - despite the fact 2 of the players that you’re worried about haven’t even left yet - despite the fact the Transfer window is less than one quarter through - despite the fact we are the best run club in the world and have the best manager in the world.
I’m not in anyway panicked I’m just merely pointing out lack of options last season effectively cost us 2 final places. The 3 paragraphs was more of a reflection of my boredom than anything else.

Football is cyclical we can’t become complacent and at times I think we rely on peps brilliance to paper over some cracks I.e no left back and no striker last season yet we still won the league. We also didn’t replace kompany and as a result we suffered in the league. The club is run amazingly well but they are not infallible.

To compete in the 4 competitions (which is obviously our aim) I think we do need more numbers.
