It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

If there was interest there, I would think the price would be the least of the concerns.

Getting 50m for Ake and paying 65m for a player of his profile on a new 5 year contract is easily within reach for the club, particularly this summer with all the other sales.
No I just think we won’t spend that much on a Cb this summer. Idk though obviously.

And they don't have to.
No but if they can’t sell their other players they won’t be able to register them, at all. Putting themselves in a precarious and unenviable bargaining position.

They will soon have to pay up on deferred wages and transfer payments.

Neither do I, for clarity, said as much a few times. It is more that I don't think it impossible or the non-starter sometimes claimed to be.

All true, but they have been in this position for what is the 3rd transfer window in a row now at least, so they are likely to know what thety are doing, mes que and all.

So we're going to go from:

Ederson
Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo
Rodri
De Bruyne, Bernardo
Mahrez, Jesus, Foden

Steffen
[N/A], Stones, Ake, Zinchenko
Fernandinho
Gundogan, [N/A]
Palmer, Sterling, Grealish

To:

Ederson
Walker, Stones, Dias, Cucurella
Rodri
De Bruyne, Bernardo
Mahrez, Haaland, Foden

Ortega
Cancelo, Laporte, Gvardiol, Zinchenko
Phillips
Gundogan, Grealish
Palmer, Alvarez, McAtee

Seems alright to me.

Only tricky at the end of the season, someone would want out.

Dias started his career incredibly with us but last year he never hit the same heights for me.

Laporte after his knee injury looked very poor but last season returned to the top class CB he is.

Competition is good, and if it's put some ones nose out of place, so what, the long term future of the club is what matters.
Agree...imagine a club with Dias, Stones, and Laporte selling Ake and then looking at a replacement among Kounde, Gvardiol, deLigt, etc....as a fan how can you be anything but elated at the level of ambition this club displays coming off 4 titles in 5 years?...I would have never imagined in my wildest dreams that we could have ever attained this level of greatness...yes GREATNESS!...this is a club that places no limits on how good they can be, spares no expense, and puts no one player above the team...debating and worrying and such is natural among fans and adds to the "fun"...but for me seeing people actually complaining and doubting the club is more than a bit overboard...someone was saying we've become complacent...we just signed Erling Haaland for Christ's sake...Dinho's time comes to an end and we bring in Phillips straight away (a move even the pundits have praised, imagine that) and a bunch on here can't wait to slag him off...Cucurella is a rising young talent who checks all the boxes at LB...you're supposed to celebrate those type of additions, not argue for reasons not to, like 5 or 10 mil too much...we can pay premiums because we've built a tremendous academy where 10 mil for a youth player is the norm...that's part of the whole point of building such a strong academy in addition to uncovering the young gems like Foden, Palmer, McAtee, etc...and forget all the noise from the outside about money, FFP, history and all that other nonsense...its all to hide the fear...in their hearts they know what a monster we've become, how good we've become, and how we continue to get even better and they are scared stiff about it...just enjoy the fucking ride because you never know when things may change...

Back to players, I agree with the idea that if Ake were to go we could bring in someone not being talked about like Alessandro Bastoni or Lisandro Martinez...

Agreed, I don’t think a Gvardiol or Koundé are out of the question I just don’t see us spending £60/70m on a centre back this summer. Maybe next summer but I think if we move for an Aké replacement this summer it’s more likely to be a cheaper profile maybe ~£30/40m.

You say that but the first of those windows was under Bartomeu who was ousted due to being a fucking clown but now Laporta is back and their strategy hasn’t changed.
