It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

You really think Mendes is trying to sell Bernardo behind his back?

Sorry but I am not having that, Bernardo pays his agent and hence should have full control of his career, if he does not, he goes down in my estimation.

Sadly I think Bernardo wants out, let's hope Barca don't raise the money before the window closes.
Him wanting out is the only logical explanation for his agent’s behaviour - Bernado is a clever lad and a multi-millionaire, and so I really can’t imagine him having some sort of subservient relationship with an agent.

Personally, I do think there’s a good chance he will leave in this transfer window. You can ask an unhappy player to stay for a year, or maybe even two. But if a player has asked to leave for three summers in a row, and then a suitable bid comes in, I honestly don’t think you can expect to keep him.

Holding him to his contract would be small-time behaviour on our part (see United and Brighton), and potential signings would think twice about joining if they thought they couldn’t leave if they didn’t settle at the club.

Obviously it all depends on a suitable bid arriving, but if it does I think he’ll be gone, and so we probably are lining up replacements as a contingency.

Small time behavior holding a player to a contract? really? And in terms of Brighton, who took a chance on a player 12 months ago, that is plain wrong.

12 months ago I got the feeling if we had received any sort of offer for Bernardo the club would have let him leave due to the "homesickness" he was rumored to be suffering but the clubs stance seems to have changed to me.

We still would let him leave but very much on our terms and at market value, I no longer think this is anything to do with homesickness or culture, this is down to money and the player/agent wanting a big pay day.

For shits and giggles we should offer ronaldo a way out of the rags. Imagine the PR meltdown

He must be fuming that he didn't get his move here last Summer.

The whole bollocks about him going there because he loves them is hilariously unfolding in front of our eyes as he again pushes for a move away and doing anything he can to get out. Brilliant.

There’s no way Mendes is touting a move this without Bernardo’s permission but I’d be shocked if Mendes hasn’t encouraged it.

It’s in his best interest to make as many big moves happen this summer as next summer he wouldn’t make anywhere near as much money off a transfer.

I wonder how many clients Mendes has on his books...?

How does anyone know the reasons for Mendes going visiting other clubs....it could be about any number of clients he has in his stable

I think if you keep a player against his wishes for three seasons, then it doesn’t really do the club any favours in the long run. I was perhaps unfair in labelling Brighton’s stance as small time, but I personally think that City are big enough now to deal with a player leaving, if of course our valuation is met. We’ve lost better players than Bernado - much better players actually - and still managed to turn out winning teams.

Whether anyone does put up the money remains to be seen, but if they do then I think he’ll be off.

Would also question whether the agent and player would earn more money by moving away, rather than staying put and signing a new contract. You only have to look at the agents fees City have paid out after key players renewed contracts to get an indication of the sums involved.

I think it's pretty evident that if we get the right bid, he can go. That's not special to Bernardo, it's what we always do if a player wants to leave.

Pep has said it countless times in the press, if a player wants to go then he can go but we won't bow down and let them go on the cheap just because they've asked.

The guy won't be signing a new contract and it's just inevitable he'll go, it's just a case of when. He obviously seems to want Barcelona and given their random tendency to spend more than they have, that bid could arrive at any point. On that basis, like you've said, it makes total sense to have somebody in line to replace him.

I think there was a media report a while ago which suggested Mendes discussed several of his players when he visited the CFA earlier this year, so clearly he could be representing any number of his clients at any given club. But there’s obviously something going on with Bernado.

why is something obviously bernardo? .......cause it fits a media narrative...again there is no evidence of this other than hearsay.

Mendes is openly hauking Ronaldo all over Europe (and beyond - Saudi team have offered some astronomical deal to him). He's been seen at their ground yesterday with Ronaldo....thats why he is all over Europe. Ronaldo didnt attend the recent tour (supposedly for family reasons - but is then able to return to utd as soon as utd get back to the UK.....hmmm!)

I get what you’re saying mate, but Mendes is a prolific press briefer. It’s pretty much his MO as an agent.

Chances are if the press are busy telling us Mendes is hawking Bernardo around Europe - it’s because Mendes himself has briefed them to get precisely that message out.

Now you can ask yourself why he wants that message made public - what’s his agenda?

It’s highly unlikely he simply wants the world to know his travel plans over the next few weeks.

He’ll be trying to play clubs off against each other - ourselves included.

There’s nothing that will trigger the Barca press more quickly than the idea he’s touting one of their main targets to Madrid.

Similarly he might also be trying to flush out the best terms for a new deal at City (as we know the player was open to signing a new deal during last season), so they’ve got a few offers on the table to pick from.

But whatever the truth, you can be fairly sure the source for this story is Mendes himself.
