I think if a top class left back was available, then we would have bought him already, but for whatever reason we haven’t.Or we could have shot ourselves in the foot titles-wise long before then. It's no coincidence that fans are shitting themselves because of our small squad.
We've Aké, Laporté Jack & Kalvin out & already we're looking stretched. Once we get to three games per week, then what?
I honestly believe that another senior LB & a top class winger is all we need to complete this season's squad & to give us adequate competition/cover for the season ahead.
We were a Kyle Walker injury away from a second successive CL final appearance imo. It's at crucial times like those, when bypassing moments like now, when we can change things, that makes our small squad policy seems crazy to many of us.
I readily accept that my pet theory as it were could prove to be absolute bollocks, but any World Cup influence in this transfer window is likely to have been more of a factor for City than for other teams, so I suspect that we’ve wanted to buy more players, but been frustrated.
Also, without wishing to be a smart arse, I would point out that Phillips was actually bought this summer to provide depth, and so far he’s been constantly injured. So there’s a bit of luck involved as well, and hopefully we’ll be ok for the next couple of months.
