It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

Many thought Grealish was going to be the game changer for us, then Phillips was going to be a masterstroke of a signing. Is Maddison now going to be the catalyst for the champions league...

Mediocre English players are just that.

Not pleased with our recruitment recently. Haaland and Alverez aside, the rest of the players are far too slow and not at the level we need.

Nothing more predictable then everyone losing their minds over us being linked to someone inside the league. I would encourage anyone to go back and look at the Kyle Walker or Nathan Aké or John Stones transfer threads if they want a laugh.

I don't really like Madison but we need a creative midfielder on the left of midfield because everything has run through KDB for 3 years and it's far too easy to choke our attack by stopping him.

I thought Grealish or Foden could play there and do that role, Pep won't even try it so he obviously doesn't.

Might as well get waist coat to replace pep while at it.

I get it, you don't like him.

Pep does, and he's not doing a bad job of this managing lark.

There are very few people like Kev, so we need to temper our expectations on a like-for-like.

We never thought we'd replace Yaya and we didn't, not like-for-like at least. We adapted, we signed Kev and the rest is history. Maddison has great numbers for a side that hasn't impressed recently and there's nothing to say he couldn't do a job for City, alongside other replacements which help us adapt as a team. We didn't think we'd replace Ferny, and Rodri again didn't initially. But now he's almost always our best player and enables us to play in a different way.

The best midfield three has typically been Bernardo, Kev and Rodri. Replacing Bernardo with Bellingham gives us that same energy up and down the pitch but probably with more end product. Replacing Kev with Maddison would therefore already allow for a drop off. Maddison got 12 goals and 11 assists last season to Kev's 15 goals and 8 assists. Same goal contribution. It's 3 goals and 12 assists vs 7 goals and 4 assists for Kev and Maddison so far, despite Maddison being out injured for several games and Leicester being shite. Getting him in to learn from Kev would help as well. I'm sure we'll have the cash to get someone else should it not.

Which is incorrect. We want both.
It’s ashame city didn’t get enzo along with juli a year ago or in the summer has shown how good he is with argentina and in the champions league.

Would have been absolute coup getting him at 10m rather then the release clause that he has now and everyone going for him in the summer if he doesn’t join chelsea today.

Maddison, Chilwell. Talk about underwhelming
Can’t have a Haaland every season. We’ve had our wow signing, beating every top club to get him.
This summer is about sensible signings for the squad. Maddison, Chilwell and Bellingham would be a hell of a summer.

I don't know why this idea of English players being mediocre has persisted when the current crop of internationals is the strongest in decades.
