It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

This current team won’t get 100 points ever again because teams have figured out how to frustrate and disrupt our play. That doesn’t mean we won’t win the Title with 85 to 90 points.
Well none did before we did, and if we don't in the future that's fine 100 points can hardly be considered a PAR to measure us against.

Think what he means is city of old would be done and dusted in the league and we would never throw away 7 points like we have done . When teans do sit back we struggle with our he counter but looks like next season we will changing that .
Yes, we and the club knew before the season ideally we needed a striker, they decided the right striker wasn't available and to try and make do for a season, if we win the league and or the c/l it's probaby seen as a bonus, if we don't it will because we wern't equipped not because we were figured out. Next season will have more expectation.

If we win the league this season, I think we should have a mini re-build to freshen it up. Move a few on and bring in some new hungry players.
I thought we should have done it at the end of last season after winning the league but that didn't happen.
Unfortunately last year, there wasn’t the money available due to Covid.
Most clubs around Europe, were struggling to make ends meet, and posting losses (some huge).
So hopefully this summer, the window will be a bit more free flowing.
We may even see a frantic summer window, but I can see the price of players sold, will not reach pre-covid levels.

It's not nonsense to say that teams have adapted to try and deal with us but Pep has evolved the side already in reponse and will keep doing so.
It's not nonsense to say we will always play on the front foot with a high line and possesion, so in that sense it's obvious to any coach that a solid defence and breaking behind the high line is the most effective way to beat that. So in that way then we've been figured out. Pep will adapt to the low block and he'll adapt our no striker system to include a striker, but the basic system will stay the same and the most effective teams against us will still always be good counter attack teams.
However the fact we are still top of the league and in the c/l still as well as getting to the FA CUP semi final means we are still difficult to beat and as well as playing effective tactics to beat us you need us to be off our game too, as at the weekend, so if we don't win anything it will be less because we were figured out more we didn't execute our game as well as we could / should.

I agree. Teams haven't worked us out (any more than they did 3 years ago), we are just not taking enough scoring opportunities.
Even Liverpool the other day. They played the best they could play for 45 minutes, but we should have at least been level by the end of the 90. Teams already know what we do, stopping it is just not possible without seriously jeopardising their goal.
That's the risk/reward all teams face.
Haaland can score goals other players in the team cannot, and let's be honest, many fans, including myself, put a lot of pressure on the team because we need goals from everywhere to stay top. Bit of unfair expectations there.

To be fair at the start of the season many were predicting going into the season without a striker we were facing a season without trophies and treading water for a season until we got a striker. Some even predicting a struggle for top 4 with the signings united made, Chelsea with Lukaku, Liverpool with Van Dyke back. So the fact we are in pole position with 7 left and the C/l semi final in some respects we have exceeded many peoples pre season expectations already.

The Pep process is the best, but it does rely on the players getting the ball in the net when in front of goal. That's where a strikers accuracy and inspiration becomes so valuable.
Times we have been under pressure this season is when we haven't converted chances. If we win the league this year it will be a great achievement, that will obviously go under the radar of the media.
If Haaland arrives (along with Alvarez) I don't think any team in the world would live with us.
Furthermore, I believe we will see a reenergized Jesus and sterling (if they stay).
