The only way we will find out if Mbete is ready is by him being part of the squad, training with the 1st & getting minutes at the end of games, hopefully the 5 subs will help, whether Pep uses them is another matter.

Wouldnt we have the same problem as we do with the likes of Palmer & McAtee. They'd struggle for minutes. Would Bellingham be seen as the superstar in the making if he was getting the odd minutes here & there if was sat on Citys bench.It could be a good opportunity for the club to target a market we don’t usually get to go for, the hidden gem or 18/19 year old prospect who’s about to burst onto the scene instead of going after them 18 months later when they cost 5x as much.
The scouting department knows who all these players that clubs like Leicester get, we just can’t buy them because we usually need instant performers.

The midfield and front line is looking really strong. We will have Haaland leading the line, backed up by Alvarez. On the right, Mahrez and Palmer (with KDB and BS as other options); on the left, Foden and Grealish (with both also having the potential of playing left centre), backed up by Carlos Borges who has been dynamite in the academy set up; in the centre Rodri, Phillips, KDB, Bernardo and Gundogan, backed up by McAtee. That is, IMO, as strong as it gets.
In defence, Stones, Dias and Laporte, and probably Ake, with Mbete and Doyle backing them up, and in the fullback areas, Zinchenko, Cancelo and Walker. It is the latter where we are a little light: IMO it is a right back that we are missing, unless we decide to play Cancelo there more frequently, in which case, an additional left-back will be sought. We should feel extremely positive about this squad, even without Raz, Gabby and Fern.

Tommy Doyle is now linked to a loan at Sheff Utd .
It isn't against a solid bank of 10. I suspect this is where the strength and power of Haaland will be most useful as he will be able to hold it up, release it to the creators, and then go again to get on the end of the attack. In addition, Palmer and Alvarez add to the finishing ability. Granted, not yet in the PL, but both have a natural finishing prowess at the level they have played at.Are you not concerned about the similarities of profiles we have on the flanks? They're all brilliant players but having someone pacy and direct was always a plus.

Would it be though as Pep would probably play Rodri & Walker as central defenders & Cancelo at right back. The reason we struggled against West Ham & Villa defensively is because we had Walker, Stones Dias Ake injured & unable to play, Laporte playing through a major knee injury & a 37 year old FernyPeople have short memories. Picture ourselves with a tough fun of fixtures with some injuries in defence. Think we get through them with Philips and mebete in defence? Just because we signed Haaland doesn't mean we can afford to weaken other areas, we will be competing in, and wanting to win 4 trophies. We need to be as strong as possible

Wasnt Rodri more of an attacking midfielder at Athleti. Rodri will have more opportunities to shoot from the edge of the boxyou have Rodri and phillips playing in the same team at the same time. Okay Gareth Southgate

Signing Cucurella as Akes replacement in the squad makes more sense to me, especially if we are struggling for squad places.
If I remember rightly we were over the squad limits before we sold Jesus
that's actually a good shout.If Ake does go how about Jason Denayer as 4th choice CB. Contract up at Lyon and is still only 27.
