It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

I suspect we’re all pretty happy with our transfer activity. I for one can’t wait for preseason let alone the season to start.
I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy seeing good players leave but that’s where we are now and i have complete faith in the club’s judgement

----------------------Ederson / Ortega / Carson
Walker------Stones / Mbete*------Dias / Laporte------Cancelo / Cucurella
----------------------------Rodri / Phillips
----------Bernardo / Gundogan---------De Bruyne / Mcatee*
Mahrez / Palmer*----------Haaland / Alvarez*-------------Foden / Grealish

It would be crazy to lose Ake, Zinchenko, Sterling and Jesus and not bring in at least 2 players.

We'd be down to a squad of 19 outfielders with question marks* over 4 (yes Alvarez isn't a guarantee).

Does the team below get through every round of the League Cup and FA Cup?
----------------Ortega
Stones----Mbete----Laporte---Cucurella
----------------Phillips
--------Gundogan----Mcatee
Palmer---------Alvarez---------Grealish

I don't think it does.

Plus 1 injury to the back 4 and we're playing 2 starting XI defenders in the games we should be rotating.
I'm not arguing with you...just asking...why are you assuming both Ake and Zinny will be leaving and not be replaced?...what are you basing this on?...secondly, suppose Ake and Zinny leave and we wind up with a back line of Walker/Cancelo Dias/De Normand Stones/LaPorte Cucurella/Ait Nouri...just humor me...do we need another attacking player?...key word "need"...again, just asking...

That is not a bad suggestion a free transfer and wouldn't demand too much wages; wouldn't haven't any issues registering Mee either.
Depends if he wants to play regularly and if he can pass a ball. 10 years at Burnley won’t have done his passing much good.

There is that but Mee would be another experienced centre back which wouldn't put too much pressure on rushing playing Mbete (if required). Besides that he won't have the World Cup to think about.

Not a panicking post by any means because for me it makes sense to get money for players who either 1. want to leave or 2. aren’t going to get a chance here but it strikes me as odd we’re doing it all in the same window.

Either we’re just boosting the pot because why not? or we’re boosting it for some monstrous move.

I hope it’s the latter, this forum is more fun when that’s the case! ;)
A lot of the younger guys are past playing at the rising levels and there's no room on the 1st team so normally most would go out on loan...someone correct me if I'm wrong but there's a large restriction coming into play greatly reducing the number of players a club can put out on loan...so it would make sense for City to sell these youngsters with buy back and sell on clauses for now...yes, no?

I get the feeling that a big part of bringing in Phillips from Leed's is that it allows us to use Rodri as an emergency centre half if needed.
Could be...I actually think Pep believes Rodri can play some in a more advanced role...I believe he tallied 7 goals in the league, which for a holding player is absurd...

Who would he play in a more advanced role instead of ? Not KDB ,Bernard and Gundogan and I think he'd play Foden and Grealish in a more advanced midfield role ahead of Rodri, maybe Mcatee too.

Thought the new loan rules didn't count under 23s

It'll affect Chelsea more so but won't have much if any impact on us?

FIFA's new loan rules to be given final approval at next council meeting; FIFA wants to implement rules to prevent stockpiling of players; Clubs will be limited to six players loaned out starting from 2024/25 season; club-trained players or players aged 21 or younger exempt from rules.

More likely Phillips would play CB. He’s done it before.
It’s style size interpretation for most, him being smaller etc, his ability to play out is yet to be seen also, he’s more the old fashioned destroyer…. Rodri though, for me, is going to be the best the prem has seen since errrr dinho (: he also, as evidenced at points last year, is becoming one of the best readers of the game around, dispelling the myth around pace…

Phillips I’m guessing will surprise a great deal, just because he’s yet to display his entire repertoire doesn’t mean it isn't in the locker, which Pep obviously thinks it is; anyway, I’ve missed a hard tackler like this since de jong, not because we as a team has missed it but the impact of atmosphere is discounted, it raises the decibels when it gets a little flat!

I think he’ll be great backup for Bernardo as well as Rodri and hopefully more rest will mean we see a bit more Bernardo magic like the Liverpool match instead of the purely industrial performances we saw in the second half of the season.

Should be a very solid signing.
