It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

I am all for a significant reform of our squad this summer. The most imperative thing is to have MORE players than we have now. We can’t continue to have such a small squad that doesn’t allow for more rotation and rest. You look at Liverpool this season, they have a squad prepared to win the quadruple (yeah they drew Benfica etc! But that is part of the game), whereas for us it would take a miracle. I notice in posts here that the mindset is a accepting our lack of squad depth as norm, so often people will say “but who is leaving?” if you talk about a player coming, or “but we already have X that can do that!”, among other points. The other thing is expecting Pep to trust in Academy players more than he usually does is just helpless, it’s not how he works. So we do have to feed him players with experience. I am not afraid of letting Sterling and Jesus as much as I really like them, but I do think a renewal of our forwards is in order. Bring two if those two leave in addition to Haaland and Alvarez, don’t be afraid of change. Make us more clinical and fresher, and just different

Alvarez looks promising but Gabby looked just as confident before he joined us. Don't forget Jesus has already had a major knee injury.

Anyone seen this clip?

There are some great goals on there which remind me of Aguero. I particularly liked one at 2:12. Just like my favourite Aguero goal against the dippers from a tight angle.

Hope Alvarez will the surprise signing, if will be f amazing if his contribution is similar or surpassing Haaland next season.

City will be creating a monster duo.

In the long term, it’s possible, but not right away
I didn't see the same volume of clips of Jesus before he joined us, but to me there's no reason he can't surpass Jesus.
There looks to be a lot of Aguero in this kid Alvarez. Looks clinical when he gets the chance. Gets in great positions. Can dribble and shrug off defenders. Looks amazingly competent with both feet. I assume he's right footed as that's how he scored the penalty in the clips, but you wouldn't know from many of those goals!!! Let's give him time of course. But I have a feeling this kid is going to be the real deal.

The biggest problem could be if he outshines Haaland!

Or he outshines Haaland, despite Haaland itself having a great season with us.

Could imagine how monster Alvares will be if he even deadlier than Haaland?

I haven’t seen his clips just like I didn’t watch Jesus’ clips in the day, because instead I have watched them in dozens of actual games before they moved, so I know how they behave in the entirety of 90 minutes, which is the right way to judge a player. To say there is a lot of Aguero in him is an exaggeration. He is a talented kid, but 22 is a bit old to still be in South America. There is potential to do very well, make no mistake, but I think people really need to temper their expectations down quite a few notches. Aguero had been at Atletico Madrid for quite a few years before he joined us, he had been tested in Europe, at a much higher standard of football. He also had had World Cup experience. You can’t drop a kid who only knows the Argentinian standard and I’ve seen overwhelmed against some top Brazilian opposition and hope that he’ll immediately shine in Premier League football or Champions League top clashes. In a Pep team, it’s gonna be even trickier. It will take a couple of years at least. It’s worth the gamble on him but you can’t expect him to play a significant role in our attack right away.

I keep reading this stuff and it makes me very uncomfortable because it’s like you are talking about an alien player. No, he is someone real that can be observed. In the community of Brazilian fans, you won’t find almost anyone particularly excited about him. We know him well. Everyone I talk to say “bench player”. For all I post here, it may not seem but I’m one of the most optimistic ones about him, but I can’t stress it enough, for his own success, people need to give him time and patience and not expect these wild things, not in the first years at least.
