It’s getting the balance right. All players have positives and negatives.

Liverpool rely on their fullbacks to create more, so have a more defensive midfield to cover them as they bomb forwards.

We use one as an auxiliary holding midfielder to prevent counter attacks.

Sure and I’m not trying to get the lad sold as he is a superb weapon for us.

If you were to have to put your life on someone defending a 1v1, you wouldn’t pick Cancelo.

Yeah there's always room for improvement, and this City team/squad could be better, but sometimes I think people take it too far.

When they say we weren't good enough to make the CL final, it was down to crazily fine margins that weren't about the squad. We played great in both legs, missed a ton of chances in the first game and then conceded twice at the death in the 2nd with our outright best defender having gone off injured.

And with the FA Cup, we were playing a full strength Liverpool side (ie the team that most on here think are better than us) where they had the luxury of a piss easy game in the week and we just played Atlético. And we had another game with Atlético a few days later to think about and they had an extremely easy game again in the week.

A bigger squad would've helped, especially in the FA Cup, but there's only so much we can account for bad luck in our plans.

Could be the possible second XI as the rumours stand. Seen worse.
 
Declan Rice is the only player we should be looking at for the DM role. He would challenge Rodri, could play alongside him and have more of an advanced role and has shown he can play on the big stage. I thought he was excellent against us on Sunday. He'd cost a fortune but it's such a critical position it's worth spending the money on in my opinion. I'd rather we looked to "save" money at full back by finding players with pace that weren't necessary the best defenders or best technically. Pace is something we lack and in our system we're usually having to scramble into positions if our press is played through successfully.

Our biggest weakness got addressed with Haaland. Next we need a CM and a full back which I’m hopeful we’ll get.

Next summer will be interesting. I’m hopeful
Palmer can get fit and stay fit and get more
Minutes. He’s so talented I genuinely think he can make it at City. Next season could be a big season for him.

Lad should defo be backing himself to steal Mahrez's role and spot permanently in 24 months.

Yeah, we're actually lined up for a long time once we get a CM in. All of our defenders are young (or evergreen). Almost all our midfielders and forwards would have years ahead of them too.

Juve fucked us, they went back on their agreement for Morata so we need money now for Nunez. It’s why we are selling Lodi so cheap to Newcastle as well.

If you get him he walks into your attack I think the only player he would have trouble displacing is Foden as he’s a phenomenon. Was at the Champions league game could hear from my seat Simone shouting at Savic to double up on him to take him out. If you do get Joao. A front three of Haaland , Foden and Felix will rival that famous Barca three and you’ll probably win the champions league and a lot of trophies.

Thanks for this, it's good to get your mate's opinion.

I asked yesterday if we'd look at converting him into a "proper" midfielder because he just seems to have that thing where he looks like he's got so much more potential to be unlocked but that's not a criticism of Atletico or Simeone; I think the education will serve him really well in the future.

Really interesting one to see how the rest of his career goes because the other players of a similar age and status have almost all shown what they are and what they will continue to be. Whereas players like Foden and Felix have clearly got a few more gears to go into.
