I just posted on the Phillips thread. It’s insane for people to think that’s a good deal when you have a player like him, younger and with a very high ceiling, almost every stat already better than Phillips, playing for a manager who is a Bielsa disciple and who had Juanma Lillo as his assistant for years too. ON A FREE!!! Anything is possible. City may well go abroad for a CM. If it were a choice between Phillips or Nunes from sporting I’d take Phillips. I would’ve loved Pogba because he’s far more talented than he gets credit for in England. I don’t fancy De Jong. He’s on 400k a week and the contract is long. Those aren’t the sorts of figures you pay a CM unless he’s KDB. And De Jong isn’t KDB.
I don’t know a lot about Tchou outside the hype but I know loads of people rate him highly.
De Jong can be as good as KDB under Pep.
There is only one player we’ve been linked with who is capable of playing as a 6 and as an 8 and is good enough to be one of 4 central midfielders sharing 3 positions without a drop off in quality.
Everyone else is Rodri backup but not good enough to start, or is too good to be back up 80% of the time.

This is the issue I have with some of the more fanciful links/posts for a CDM. Rodri is Fernandinho's heir, has done a fantastic job of adapting to expectations and cost a shit load. Dropping an absolute wedge on another CDM seems unlikely unless they are unhappy with Rodri. Tchouameni looks the part (really would be great) but any signing would have to accept they are the back up, at least at first. Unless Pep is going to play double pivot more often and wants Bernardo further up the pitch.
Personally, I'd see a value signing making more sense - cheaper fee and/or a prospect who is happy to learn while getting minutes in cups etc
