i don’t think we have even started talking with Brighton tbh. If zinchenko stays it appears we are happy with our current crop of full backs. Won’t lie I’d be disappointed to miss out on cucurella but I’m not surprised zinchenko isn’t leavingIndicates we are nowhere near signing Cucu and are trying to put pressure on Brighton/him.

I'd love Zinchenko to stay but not if it means not signing and actual leftback
There is no obvious reason as to why that would be the case.
We've got more than enough money so I have no idea why the club seems reluctant to pay up to fill gaps in the squad.

The only reason I can think of is playing time, cancelo and walker will both expect to start and Ake will want more minutes this year for the world cup if we sign a fullback akes only minutes will be the cup games or if we have 2 cbs out. I honestly think we could use another fullback rb or lb. Glad if zinc stays though.There is no obvious reason as to why that would be the case.

I like Ake. He seems like a really nice guy and I genuinely think he's a decent centre back. But the truth is that he wanted to go to Chelsea this summer and the only reason why he's not there is because they didn't want to pay what he was worth.
With that in mind, I don't think we should be going out of our way to appease him, especially at the cost of signing another left back. As much as I rate him in the middle, he brings virtually nothing at left back.
So yeah, I just wouldn't understand that decision. I've said all summer (and probably the last few summers) that I think we should keep Zinchenko and sign another left back.

What are we saving money for though?
Brighton are asking for roughly the same money for their player of the season as we have received for three players who didn't make our starting eleven, two of which had a year left on their contracts.
I will be over the moon if we keep Zinchenko but I really struggle to see why we wouldn't buy a left back.

Nah I'm just saying better to save ourselves the trouble of negotiating with Brighton who upped his price from 30-35m to 50m + soon as it became clear he was City's #1 target.
It's sometimes easy to forget Cancelo was the best left back in Premier League last season. I'd say just get another young full back who can be an understudy to seniors, but then again, Wilson-Esbrand has shown plenty of promise, so you could argue

Seems fine. There's arguments for injury record and the fact that we have missed an out and out left back, but it's not a crisis, and if you were to ask me, I'd rather add a winger to the attack.

I don’t really know what Ake wanted. I can only guess. But my take is that Chelsea were keen, Ake quite rightly considered his future but was equally happy to stay at City.
But it’s just my opinion which I don’t want anyone to dress up as being fact.
