It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

The fact he’s nothing more than SOS, pal, there is a great deal of revisionism regarding Zin, however, Sergio, much like him, will afford rest-bite to rotation, anything else is a bonus in terms of development and a cheap gamble….

Zin was class. He starts and captains Ukraine from central midfield. He's excellent at retaining the ball and is very creative. Zinc is one of the reasons Arsenal have looked so competent this season as he listens to directions and is an excellent team player. If the new guy is half the player in his first season, he will be doing well. To say he is a like for like replacement given the fact its a completely new position for him, and Pep had spent years crafting Zinc, is just silly.

Have to wonder how this supposed Bernardo Silva replacement hyped up by the tiktok generation is ending up at West Ham and not even a club with CL football?

He's a talented Brazilian international, who has done well in an average Lyon team. I'd say it was a coup for West Ham to be honest - especially at that price. He measures well against positional peers:

I'm surprised Liverpool aren't interested, but Klopp seems to want someone who plays 6 & 8, rather than 8/10/wing. Even though It seems like creativity in midfield is their issue.

It's week two of the season, and we have about 13 senior outfield players fit. Soriano announces the market is closed for us.

My reading is he is way more worried about what happens if he takes a chance on someone that doesn't turn out well, than what Pep has to deal with in the coming months.

Predictable bollocks crap shit that ensues when senior management get taken to task for costly mistakes. They'll slice a fair bit off the chances of reaching organisational goals, instruct others to 'deal' with operational shortcomings, if it means they don't bear personal responsibility for making another mistake of the same kind that was highlighted.

disappointing to hear that we are done in the market and a couple of key injuries puts us in trouble? We already have Laporte and Ake out for the next few weeks at least? Did the club have to generate cash as they may have fallen foul of FFP or the premier league FFP? Obviously if fringe players wanted to leave and the younger ones like Lavia who wanted to play we got some good money for them with buy backs but the we have replaced Jesus, Sterling and Zinchenko with Haaland, Alvarez and Gomez? Haaland without question is an upgrade but the other two are unknown currently and in this league and champions league? i know the club want to be sustainable etc but maybe the comment that Soriano said in that summer interview (Normay maybe) that we have 3 shareholders and we have to make profit so they can be paid on their investments, is that possibly a reason for cash flow? What are we currently in the market this summer, £79m in the black ish?

Yeah kind of agree but think the city thinking is we can get to the World Cup with this squad we have fine and get enough points then look at buying in January! How many games have we got till the World Cup? Is it another 15?

Other than Dzeko and Laporte, we don't seem to make significant January signings that play in that season.

I can't see why it would be a good strategy to dip into the market in January when it would be a) more desperate b) more difficult as teams are reluctant to part with players mid season and c) harder to get good value because of a, b and World Cup performance premiums.

We have a small squad that puts us at risk if we get injuries - we already have injuries, aren't into midweek games yet. In addition, selling/loaning the promising youngsters (great for accounts) increases reliance on the senior players for cup competitions. It's strange and I hope it doesn't bite us in the arse.

Excellent post and fully agree. The board putting unnecessary pressure on the squad and manager this season it seems when we have raised substantial funds that should be reinvested in the squad.

I'm sure we had a minus net spend last season as well, Grealish was the only signing for 100m but I think we recouped 109m. The transfer strategy is definitely changing at City and it must be ffp related. Other clubs in the prem must be very close to being done re ffp, some of the spending is pretty reckless and the clubs aren't really selling to buy

We have given/giving some huge new contracts to existing players and hopefully manager, it may have pushed us near FFP issues?

Nah, that just spreads it out over a longer period, if anything our wage bill is probably alot less with these and sales.
