Bit of a left-field prediction (ignore the pun) but I wouldn't be surprised if we sold Dias and replaced him with a traditional left back.

I agree Frimpong has come further in his development and is a better player as of today but to say with certainty he is 10x the player a 21 year old Brazil International FB playing for a top team in La Liga will ever be is just ridiculous and a laughable statement. With that said, I think neither is good enough defensively to start regularly as a FB in our team at the moment. I just think its silly to already rule out the possibility that Couto could have a future as a member of the first team squad here. But thats just my opinion, based on nothing more than watching them both around 10 times each this season.

Foden’s dominant displays seems to have quashed talk of Wirtz. Things can change but we all see the former maturing infront of us. No need to disrupt that no matter who becomes available.

I don’t think Wirtz and Alvarez can coexist.

Foden can play anywhere, but if Wirtz arrived and started playing as a 10/second striker then Alvarez would only ever play when Haaland was out injured or being rested.

Really, on what basis would we sell Dias?

Out of our defensive unit the most likely/next to go in my opinion would be Gomez and Walker. Gomez because he doesn't get a look in and will want regular football at some point. Walker simply due to age, suspect we'll get another year out of him but we should be scouting replacements now.

Foden can play anywhere, but if Wirtz arrived and started playing as a 10/second striker then Alvarez would only ever play when Haaland was out injured or being rested.

Good point. Alvarez is a tremendous talent and the club needs to be careful not to push him to the fringes. Plenty of teams would take him in a heartbeat. Mixed bag this season so far but a quality player none the less.

Paqueta might be the only arrival.

Out of our defensive unit the most likely/next to go in my opinion would be Gomez and Walker. Gomez because he doesn't get a look in and will want regular football at some point. Walker simply due to age, suspect we'll get another year out of him but we should be scouting replacements now.

However, my thinking is that we have 2 players who are centre backs that have been playing left back so we have space to lose 1 centre back. It won't be stones because he can play the midfield role and so can akanji who can also play either side full back so offers versatility.
Won't be gvardiol as he signed for big money. Won't be ake because he has been our best defender for 2 years.
Dias' performances have dropped off this season and if I can see that then I'm pretty sure pep can too.
He has recently split with his girlfriend I believe so may be happy to go.

We would be mad to let him go. 26 years old, one of the best defenders in the world when in form, and probably our future captain. We can look at some young LB when we sell Gomez, but otherwise, RB is a much bigger priority, IMO.
