It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

During which time the players we had won a domestic treble; a world club, super cup & PL; followed by 4 successive PL titles

We don’t sign players to make headline news. We win trophies. We sign players we need

The problem is in a CL semi final or defining PL game our midfield would be
Rodri, Foden and Kev/Bernie
Guimares starts for Brazil so he's not going to want that. However many games he gets during the campaign.
That's why it probably makes more sense to sign Wharton.

Wharton is looking like a regular for Palace, why would he want to risk that for a back-up role at City, at his age.

Players that come will need to want to back themselves to be first choice.

Think he would take the Gundo role if he came maybe 3 at the back with Kev and Phil as 10's

Not really true though as Kovačić started a bunch of those big games last season

With Rodri around they're not going to be. But in a couple of years Rodri goes back to Spain and Wharton becomes the number 1. He's got time on his side. Guimares doesn't.

Don't think any player looks to pause their career for the chance of being no.1 if another player leaves in a couole years. Imo.
