We had a few CB's already at the club so that task for him to fully settle was more easier and we were on our way in being Centurions. On top of him turning us down in the first place and Atletic Bilbao being well off the pace in that season made more do-able in January. A new midfielder doesn't have that extra luxury of settling down. It is sink or swim this time. Zubimendi seems more content in staying in Spain for this season. If we are heavily interested then next season is a more realistic option.
At this stage we don’t know what Zubimendi is thinking but you can be damn sure that the club will have gauged his interest through his agent. There were a few stories in the last month that he is regretting turning down Liverpool which suggests he might be open to a move. Maybe Liverpool will go for him again, maybe we will make a move but no one really knows.
If he wants to join us in January and we are in fact interested then it will happen. He has a release clause so if we pay that the club has to let him go. He gets more time with Pep and establishes himself in Rodri’s absence.
