It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

But eventually players would want more of the a look in rather than be constantly rotated. Watkins will want to be the main striker and not be content with being second billing.
Then the backup can move on, like Alvarez did. But Alvarez still scored important goals and contributed to our play when he was here. We can rest Haaland and have another striker playing. We have another source for goals and can keep our main striker fresh.

We also tried playing Alvarez out wide and in midfield. Just need to find a player that can do the same. Musiala would be ideal.

But then we back to looking for that elusive cover for Haaland.

Players won't want to join us because of our current situation being 2nd in the league?

6 games without a win and some have lost their heads!
If you scratch the surface there is an overall underlying confidence amongst the squad and the issues with the way we are throwing away games, on top of trying to settle then new players would think twice in joining us this season. Nothing to do with losing our minds but looking at the bigger picture.

Seriously? No half decent player would want to work under Pep for the currently most successful club in England over the past 8 seasons? Nonsense. Chelsea have had no issue buying the players they want despite being wildly unsuccessful in recent seasons.

Buying in January is tricky but Zubimendi has a release clause and Ederson plays for Atalanta who have had big departures. Yes there may be issues bedding then in but Haaland, Gvardiol, Savinho, Doku and Akanji have had to slot in with varying degrees of success.
An aging squad that is under serious amounts of pressure and not looking the most stable. Short term they would think twice. Any new playing joining in January would have to hit off with the squad straightaway with no wriggle room. A near enough impossible task. Besides we have to sell before we can accomdiate the new shiny player. Again summer is the best scenario is when we are going to start from scratch with a new DoF.

Did we buy Laporte in January when we were at a low ebb? He seemed to want to come after previously not

Sorry Ray but I disagree with your first assertion regarding players reluctance to sign for us.

There will be many players who will have watched the success and the way the club is run over a sustained period, and recognise the opportunity to be part of a highly successful club.

Our current malaise will not be ongoing for the long term future, especially if we can get players approaching something like full fitness.

We are nothing like the road accident existing at the rags for example and the solutions to our problems are much more achievable if money is made available for the incoming transfer window.
Again short term (ie Janaury). Any possible target would not want to move midseason with a side that is really struggling to compete for trophies. He would want to bide his time.

We had a few CB's already at the club so that task for him to fully settle was more easier and we were on our way in being Centurions. On top of him turning us down in the first place and Atletic Bilbao being well off the pace in that season made more do-able in January. A new midfielder doesn't have that extra luxury of settling down. It is sink or swim this time. Zubimendi seems more content in staying in Spain for this season. If we are heavily interested then next season is a more realistic option.

You always speak as if it is a given fact but I don't believe you can be that certain.

If Pep feels that 1 or possibly 2 signings, of the right calibre would benefit the team, and are attainable, then I believe it could happen.

Of course we will know what the reality of the matter is soon enough.
