It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

Tbh I see it the opposite way. Bruno G has more energy, better duel winning. I also see him as being more versatile in the different midfield roles he can play, so when Rodri is back I see much more clearly how Bruno G and Rodri can play together. But I’m less confident about how it works with Zubimendi. For me, Bruno G would be a miles better signing but if it’s not possible, it’s not possible.
I get that. I’m wondering if we are going for a more comfortable 6 in this window because we are worried about our form and needing to finishing in the top 5.

I think Rodri will be able to play with Zubi but he’d be the more mobile one that steps forward and links up play, we’ve seen him do it and score some really important goals as well.

Then a player like Bruno in the summer would be perfect.

Currently I’d take anyone though. (Apart from Kalvin Phillips)

This is why I don’t like it long term. We have our first ever Ballon D’Or winner and our midfield ‘solution’ would be to sign someone to play in his position and move the best player in the world somewhere else? To me that would be madness. Leave Rodri where he is. He scores those goals because from DM he can arrive at the perfect moments, and be on the edge of the box. If his starting position is higher we might actually find he has FEWER chances to score. Zubimendi seems great in the short term, but I want the club to remember that Rodri still exists and we need it to work when he’s back too.

That’s why I hope we can also bring in Reijnders. Zubimendi is limited in the positions he can play, and his lack of energy compared to Bruno or Reijnders is a major concern. We still need runners, and Zubimendi isn’t one. I’m not convinced how signing him alone would solve our lethargic midfield.

Good point.

My view going into this season was we didn’t need a back up 6 or a back up striker as we have the two best players in those positions in the world and we’d be fine with hybrid players backing them up. For instance Kov/Gundo as a 6 and say Foden/Bobb as a false 9. But that hasn’t worked out.

We still need a 6 as a squad player and having someone to rotate and push Rodri isn’t a bad thing. Zubi may have been told that’s the deal, like Ortega it’s not a bad deal at all.

Also need to see how Rodri is when he comes back, many players haven’t been the same after such an injury.

Reijnders is great, having a great season etc.

Would Milan let him go and if so and what price.

Would love him here for sure.

With Zubi it’s the same as Rodri who was called Plodri his first year. A player with control, iq, timing etc. something Spanish midfielders seem to have.

No guarantee that Rodri will come back the same player
